I worked at Maricopa County (Arizona) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They have ok benefits. It's really not all that great. But I do like that they have a small gym.

    Cons

Management is horrible! They need to revamp. They don't trust their employees so they micro manage a lot. Needs to change!

    Advice to Management

    Change

    Pros

Benefits are good. If you're willing to give 20+ years, you'll get a good pension. But also be willing to work in a culture of mediocrity.

    Cons

Culture promotes mediocrity - reward is given for longevity instead of productivity/performance/education. Nothing is done to keep talented employees motivated. Salary is not competitive.

I worked at Maricopa County (Arizona) full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great Vision, Very Good Mission, Good Goal & Objectives.......Van Pool, On-Site Fully Equipped Exercise Room, Member of ASRS, Good IT Support.

    Cons

Inadequate Execution of the Strategic Plan, Employees are Second in Importance, Constant Change in Upper Management and Therefore Constant Significant Changes in Leadership, Wrong Tools Used to Fix Correctly Diagnosed Problems! PMO Unit, TIP Program Unit, and HR Division Are Great Candidates for Smart Re-engineering Initiative. Poor Location.

    Advice to Management

Exercise less politics and bureaucracy. Execute a Strategic Plan that reflects the importance of dedicated teams and achieve maximum fair benefits to end users. Improve HR Performance and Practices. Better Collaboration with Partnering Agencies.

I have been working at Maricopa County (Arizona) full-time

Never a dull moment. Always something happening.

    Cons

You'll get along better with the inmates than your supervisors

    Advice to Management

    Be trained more effectively.

I worked at Maricopa County (Arizona) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    - Great coworkers! The people in the RD office are what kept me there so long. For the most part, everybody was very friendly and helpful.
    - The supervisors are all very knowledgeable and easy to work for.
    - Field work is engaging and it's nice to leave the cubicle
    - Workload isn't unrealistic, but there are pressures to meet certain goals
    - Awesome HR in the Assessor's Office
    - Amazing benefits, affordable to everyone

Overall, the office is run well and I enjoyed my time there. I learned things that I would otherwise never learn. Your time is what you make of it.

    Cons

    - "Depends on who you ask," mentality
    - LOW pay, ridiculous hiring requirements for what they pay.
    - State requirement with any government job, but the Arizona State Retirement System takes 11% of your pre-taxed check. Crippling when you make less than $20 an hour
    - Administration doesn't know your job and they don't seem to care. They make decisions based on money and politics, which kills morale.
    - Seriously high turnover for appraiser position

    Advice to Management

The recent raises are still not enough for the hiring requirements. Listen to the people who are the backbone of your office; we are smarter than you might think.

I worked at Maricopa County (Arizona) full-time

    Pros

Excellent benefits, dynamic environment, and great coworkers.

    Cons

Still using old technology at some locations. Management uses contractors to develop overly-complex solutions with no or very little input from the team that will be responsible for maintaining the system. Middle management seems untrustworthy at times and gave me the impression they were setting me up for failure as apposed to success.

    Advice to Management

Stop sitting back and letting middle management poison the team morale. Listen to your people, and don't constantly answer your peoples questions with another question. The 3 stars are only because I had the privilege of working with some great engineers.

I worked at Maricopa County (Arizona) (Less than a year)

    Pros

The pro to working here is you will get a decent pension if you can last 10 years.

    Cons

You can get hurt very quickly if you don't pay attention to what you are doing while you are walking the pods, while attending the inmates.

    Advice to Management

be sure to always praise and recognize hard work, never belittle a worker in front another co-worker. You will always get more from happy workers than not.
