I have been working at Marina Maher Communications full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

The people are some of the most passionate and dedicated I have come across in agency—to the work, clients, people. When you work at an agency, you want your team to be your family, your manager to be your advocate—and that exists here. Because there's a mix of employees from non-PR backgrounds, you get to learn something new every day. There's lots of mobility if you want to learn a new skill, and many employees...

    Pros

Friendly entry level people who want to share their knowledge and build a comradely. Most likely because you're in the trenches together.

    Cons

Higher level leadership is too expensive to actually touch any projects or be fully integrated into teams but must weigh in on everything to get their 'blessing' and golden POV on everything from decks to client emails.

We agree we have wonderful employees who want to build camaraderie. As you know, we have been moving into an integrated model over the last couple of years. We believe this approach adds to a deeper client relationship and provides the results our clients are looking for.

    Pros

-They used to have a solid roster of clients that makes the name sound somewhat reputable across the industry -Seltzer water machines

    Cons

This place is getting worse by the day. Ever since they implemented the "integrated model" there have been problems abound. Brand team members are treated like project managers and all of the work that they once did is given to other teams who are stretched so thin across the entire agency that they barely have time to do the work/when they do it's regurgitated from other clients/projects. Management refuses to acknowledge...

    Advice to Management

Open your eyes. You are doing something wrong and refuse to acknowledge it. People are unhappy because you've stopped caring about their learning/growth and just continually focus on the money. The 'sad' part is that you're about to be in a situation where you don't have enough staff to support the clients you have on your current roster, let alone any new business you so desperately crave.

    Pros

MMC brings on top-rate people with experience from leading firms because they pay.

    Cons

Where to begin... While there are some solid accounts, MMC really isn't a good agency to build your career long term. If you can get a job there, you can get one somewhere better. - Super high turnover - They completely overhauled the senior leadership (chaos ensued), everyone is always interviewing elsewhere, and because of the agency size, when we lost a client firings came quick - Terrible work life balance - Abusive...

    Advice to Management

Stop trying to be an Ad Agency! Clients want us for PR work and never want to pay for all the added stuff we try to sneak in. Please pay more than lip-service to staff moral and think about how executive actions will effect it. It was demoralizing to watch so many senior people who had been there for 5+ years get forced out and replaced by people not from PR.

    Pros

Location near Grand Central. Free products (just not the stampede that ensues to get said free products).

    Cons

Despite their attempts at re-branding themselves, MMC is still a very catty, cliquey agency to work for. They are trying to move into healthcare, but are failing at this attempt and should stick to the beauty industry. From the top down, they have lost countless employees in the last 1-2 years alone between layoffs, firings, and people seeing the writing on the wall and fleeing for truly greener pastures. The work is...

    Advice to Management

Make your employees feel valued for their hard work, long hours and ZERO work/life balance. Reward them. Respect them. Give them a true work/life balance. Do not demand more more more and not return anything. At this point, it's probably best just to cut this place up and strip it for parts. Respectable, reputable and successful agencies do not operate under a leadership based on fear, cattiness and what you wear to work...

I worked at Marina Maher Communications full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

There is an opportunity to make an impact, but only if you get the respect of the top-tier management team. Otherwise, you're a worker bee. Competitive and energetic culture. Passionate employee base. Okay work (but a bit limited).

    Cons

Marina Maher Communications is an agency that thinks it can be a creative agency, but it doesn't know how to do that work, at least not well. Agency struggles to get work approved and then produced for clients. Limited client base, unless you want to work on healthcare or P&G. It can be pretty toxic, stemming from a highly political top-down power dynamic. It is a blame, gotcha culture. Not supportive. CEO is...

      Pros

MMC is a fully integrated agency - brand management, creative, digital, social, influencer, strategy, analytics, media and project management all under one roof. Clients include some of the most recognized household names and many have been with the agency for years. Cons

Integration is hard and can be messy. Finding a mentor who has navigated the process is key to help you your first time around! There is a lot of process (financial, HR, IT etc.); onboarding could be more thorough. Internal communications could be more streamlined.

      Advice to Management

Keep hiring category experts to grow not just capabilities but our culture. MMC is a great place to work and we need to keep it that way as we continue to grow so quickly.
