Full-timePart-timePros

I worked at Maritime Telecommunications Network (More than 10 years)

I worked at Maritime Telecommunications Network full-time
Pros
Company has been in maritime satellite communications industry over 30 years. Has a name, presence and reputation.
Salary and bonus at market or above.
Cons
The organization runs more on passion than professionalism. It's a shop of mini-shops.
I have been working at Maritime Telecommunications Network full-time (More than 5 years)
Pros
If you're good at manipulation you can move up quickly.
The company is on the cutting edge of technology.
Starting pay is good for entry level technicians.
Cons
You have to manipulate people to move up in this company.
There's no real training to keep people up to date on technology and those who are up to date, don't get paid for it.
Very strict demands for people working in the NOC, but nobody else. It's bothersome to see so much money wasted on people that don't work, when people in the NOC don't take breaks and spend 90% of the day working (including lunch).
Advice to Management
Hear what the employees are telling you instead of just listening. Train before rolling out new products, not after. Pay what other companies pay instead of 20K less for experienced technicians.

Pros
The average data technician would be exposed to another discipline in network communications.
RF (Radio Frequency) concepts and troubleshooting skills that are unique to the RF field must be mastered to remain proficient and contribute to the team effort in this organization.
If you are a self starter and can assimilate new concepts this company is a place to grow.
"On-the-job"Training was an emphasized by fellow workers and middle level management.
Co-workers were willing to assist and train if you had a willingness to learn and apply the suggestions.
Scheduled training classes were required and varied time periods were allocated to attend these events.
Some technical individuals were able to make the transition to management but the ability to manage a network and manage people are two distinct skill sets.
Cons
This is not "just a job" the NOC is a 24 hr "ALWAYS ON" environment. IF work is not priority then consider a 9-5 job at the local 7-11 or other jiffy mart.
You Will be asked to cover for fellow co-workers when "life events" happen. This in no way reflects the willingness of fellow co-workers to juggle schedules.
Our team was willing to "pinch-hit" for one another if they could. I am sure many NOC environments are similar but all things remaining equal our group was a team and we were successful in maintaining a "HIGH Level" of customer satisfaction and "99.9 % UPTIME" on a global communication {VSAT Very Small Aperture Terminal} network while making schedule modifications to help out a fellow technician. : Life Happens ;}
Advice to Management
Some comments are not applicable ... Most "Management" has transitioned and these "opinions" are stale and will only serve to pre-prejudice A potential applicant. ...... Opinion has been withheld.

Pros
Great company. Very lenient on employee needs and wishes. Communication is sparse but enough to have a good understanding of its main guidelines and objectives for the upcoming years.
Very focused on growth and innovation over sales and maintenance which is, in my opinion very important.
Cons
There are none that i can think of as of now.
Advice to Management
Keep up the good work.

Pros
I liked most of the people I worked with.
Cons
Horrible communication between management and employees. Everything was so secretive.
Low pay for work done, as well as no motivation for employees to want to continue to work there.
Bad customer relationships with most industries, yachts being the exception.

I worked at Maritime Telecommunications Network full-time
Pros
Some departments are not as bad Tech Services. Excellent training program while in the office.
Cons
Long periods of time away from home (uo to months at at time). treated poorly by managers. i have never seen so much finger pointing in my life. pay is way below average. managers pass their work down to techs whenever possible. ridiculous amounts of paper work (no time to do your job cause of the redundant paper work). Too much to list... Never received my last paycheck, other techs have told me they had the same issue. Zero trust in their techs. Management rewards but kissing not hard work. Horrible communications with techs.
Advice to Management
Trust your techs, stop making more work for the techs and expecting less time on jobs. Try treating the techs better.
