I have been working at Marketsmith full-time

    Pros

While my overall view of Marketsmith is rather bitter, there are many genuinely good people at the company that bring their all and create incredible things. There is immense talent in the building, but those that have that spark tend to be the ones that are overworked and burn out. The facility is relatively clean, well decorated (as long as you don’t mind red), has good snacks (though not very healthy), and a great...

Marketsmith is a master of illusion. While some employees do thoroughly enjoy working here, many are miserable and looking for an out—just because there are smiles in the pictures they post online, doesn’t mean they are actually happy. Work/ life balance is only a real thing for some, with the same group of people being the ones that are overworked constantly. I can only speak to my own experience, but during my time...

    I worked at Marketsmith

    Pros

I was at Marketsmith for just over one year and in that time, there is no doubt that I learned a great deal. The structure of the company and the roles there force employees to learn the ins and outs of what Marketsmith does- from TV to print to digital, you will be exposed to the different marketing services the company provides. Another positive aspect of the company is that there is a big focus on Global Citizenship...

    Cons

If you are looking for a company where you can expect to work predictable hours, leave at around the same time each night, and have a clear understanding of the way each day will unfold, this place is not for you. My biggest complaint with this company was the instability that the environment breeds. Some nights I was able to leave at 5:30 because I had finished all my work (though I was often chastised for doing so),...

    Advice to Management

Treat your employees as well as or better than you treat your clients. While having birthday celebrations and attractive office decor is appreciated, focus less on stuff and more on the way you make your employees feel. Treat your employees with care, respect, and empathy and you won't have such a hard time getting them to be engaged and motivated.

    I worked at Marketsmith full-time

    Pros

Great training Great people - Some of the managers and directors here are extremely brilliant and wonderful teachers. Good entry level job There is a lot to learn You will become very proficient in MS excel Free coffee Fast growth of company

    Cons

The work can get repetitive and make you feel as if you are stuck in a rut. Executives get paid very well, while entry level pay is quite mediocre and well below average. Even the managers don't get fairly compensated for their workload. There seems to be a somewhat significant disconnect between the handful of executives and the rest of its people. Although they may do a good job in getting things done for the...

    Advice to Management

Make more of an effort to get to know your people individually and listen to what they have to say. Listen to what they want and need because some of them get paid more elsewhere. Some of your employees are absolutely crucial to the future success of the company and they should be appreciated more. Give yourselves a pay cut in order to retain the talent that exists now, before it's too late.
