I worked at Markit full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great work/life balance. You can take all your vacation, sick, and personal days. Generally friendly culture and lots of younger employees.

    Cons

Individual skill-level is generally unimpressive. Lots of people who do not want to work hard and do not care for learning new skills. Basically full of people who could not get a front-office job at a bank or a job at a reputable tech company. No training. Business model relies on product monopolies, which makes the work boring and predictable.

    Advice to Management

Senior managers are quite literally useless. The young employees do the work and deliver value while the senior manager take credit. They have no discernible skills beyond being "presentable" in front of clients. High turnover will continue and many people will leave once the sell their IPO stock.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

Produce cutting edge applications. very open door - flat hierarchy

    Cons

Friction with transition to agile methodologies.
    Internal systems are highly proprietary.

    Advice to Management

Many valuable developers were allocated to management duties and not available to work on development. Hire professional managers, and let developers develop.

    Pros

Good office, friendly environment, good with foreign visas, good work life balance

    Cons

Politics, too many middle managers promoted due to time spent with the firm, cumbersome promotion policy. Too much attention given to appearance vs performance.
Management not technical, missing out on innovation opportunities. Sale driven product development..

    Advice to Management

Get quality recruits, move away from banking culture, dismiss promotion by experience, make managers and product managers read innovator's dilemma. Get more technical execs as opposed to sales/mba to sustain growth.

I worked at Markit full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great energetic workforce - ability to learn from lots of different areas within the company. Excellent starting place for recent Finance and Technology graduates.

    Cons

Integration with DTCC in 2010 was a major drag on the firm and combined the energetic your workforce of employees of Markit with the consigned and government like employee mentality of DTCC. As a result many good people either left or were pushed out and it set the MarkitSERV group back a few years. One of the worst mistakes ever made by the firm.

    Advice to Management

Stick with the original young, energetic and highly educated workforce that Markit is known for and steer clear of the joint ventures that do not share similar passions for finance and technology.

I have been working at Markit full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Wide array of benefits on top of base salary that sums up to be a great overall package, very good work life balance, org events and org culture.
My team is a small unit in this big company and we operate very autonomously with lots of freedom to make decisions while at the same time relying on corporate services tallow us to focus on the our business.
Fast growing company with lots of opportunities.

    Cons

Not sure yet, I guess as in any big company there are intrigues and there are people who are where they are by pure luck :)

    Advice to Management

Look for talent in the lower levels of the hierarchy and maintain personal quality even as the company growth fast.

    Pros

-Good work life balance if that's your thing..

-Most people at work are nice.

    Cons

Too many to list but here are a few

    1. This was an acquisition gone bad. The old firm (QSG) had a lot greater flexibility and decision making power. Now they are left with two teams in Naperville, IL, unhappy clients and no clear direction at all.

    2. There is limited growth at the Chicago location.

    3. Salaries are bad. Growth in salaries is not good either.

    4. "Quantitative Analysts" in one of the products are really glorified client service ppl.

    5. One team is run out of NY and has serious product management issues.

    6. Focus is on selling a lackluster product rather than retaining clients, development and innovation.

    7. Poor resource and project planing. By and large this office is neglected.

    Advice to Management

-Serious structural changes and hard decisions need to be made.

-Chicago can be a very strategic location. Markit management needs to realize this and invest in this office.

    Pros

very progressive and collaborative environment; senior management ensures that the Dallas office really invests in their employeees

    Cons

HR policies passed down from corporate have created more regulatory barriers for corporate title promotions internally rather than being based solely on performance

    Advice to Management

continue cultivating the dynamic and collaborative corporate culture in the Dallas office; make sure that associates know you value them and continue investing resources in them
