    I worked at MarkitSERV full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Fairly relaxed place with decent office environment. Company was growing very fast at the time and making many acquisitions.

    Cons

    Pay was lower than industry average as was the bonus. Large amount of acquisitions led to very fragmented culture with almost no communication with different groups. Technology infrastructure was very poor.

    I worked at MarkitSERV (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Flexible working, nice central
    Offices, used to be able to learn a lot but not sure that is true now. Attempts have been made to make life more bearable through the social committee but benefits are minimal.

    Cons

    The management is terrible, politics are out of control, sexist atmosphere. They are employing cheap inexperienced staff rather than investing in good people with the result of poor quality and not getting things done. Redundancies are rife as are resignations. Not a happy place at the moment.

    Advice to Management

    Stop the politics, get rid of lots of the management, stop employing cheap labour as you are ruining the quality, talk to people who actually have a clue what is going on. Don't let the boys club run the company into the ground

    I have been working at MarkitSERV full-time

    Pros

    Working hours of 35 are amongst the lowest in the city. Benefits are ok, people are nice to work with.

    Cons

    Not much chance to actually write in C++ and relatively low pay here. Many programmers come here for a year or 2, once they have learned their trade, they move on to investment banks which pay market rates.

    Advice to Management

    Stop obsessing about cost cutting - you end up losing all the good senior people.

    I have been working at MarkitSERV full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Recognition for achievements & meritocracy (this may depend on the specific team)
    - Nice colleagues who have become dear friends
    - Working hours are flexible
    - Excellent benefits package (although base salary & EOY comp can be better)

    Cons

    - Seriously messy & disorganized, nobody is capable of following a simple procedure
    - Messiness is reflected in the staff, hardly anyone puts a suit on
    - Emerging problems tend to be treated as "hot potatoes" that get passed on from team to team, or kicked down the road altogether
    - the influx of 19 year old "consultants," obviously bottom of the barrel but the cheapest alternative workforce around

    Advice to Management

    - Company needs more strategic long-term business planning, and less short-term patchwork
    - Management needs to be clearer about product development and direction, less messy and spontaneous
    - Get rid of deadwood ASAP!
    - The amount of times I have heard the word "budget" is annoying, it makes staff feel like they're forever being squeezed out for more with very little in return

    I have been working at MarkitSERV full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    I like working at Markit as it's a very relaxed and nice atmosphere, colleagues are friendly and the working hours are quite flexible.

    Cons

    Markit has been built by acquiring plenty of small little companies so sometimes there is clash of culture and it's difficult to understand what's going on. The company could be a bit more ruthless as clearly some employees do not know what they are doing and do not deserve to work here.

    Advice to Management

    Product Management could be a bit more approachable, it takes a long time to build a good relationship with them.

    I have been working at MarkitSERV full-time

    Pros

    You won't be bored, but you might get frustrated.

    Cons

    They plan, but a small cadre of forceful managers override plans, and bring the delivery stream into chaos. Sometimes this is unavoidable for example because of regulatory needs - but mostly its because a small group of managers want to be the big I AM.

    Leading to chaos, unfocussed bigger picture, slapdash work (due to time constraints) - hard to write a piece of code you could be proud of. Everything is a huge compromise. Not enough refactoring.

    Advice to Management

    Hurry up and slowdown. Take stock. You would't drive a car like this... so why are you doing it to your teams, and product.

    I have been working at MarkitSERV full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    * good working environment
    * good package (salary, all the benefits)
    * not so stressful

    Cons

    * I was hired as a C++ developer but I almost haven't touched C++ programming at all.
    All you end up doing is fixing bugs in proprietary scripting language.
    * You won't get any experience in C++
