I have been working at Marks Paneth full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I grew up at this firm - I started my first week out of college. Many of my peers have moved around to several jobs but I've always found that the best way for me to grow my career was to stay put here at MP. My managers and partners have always given me opportunities and tools to reach the next level. I received 4 promotions in my time here which has made me feel recognized and let me know that my career was moving forward. I am always given the opportunity to expand my knowledge.

    Cons

Would really like to see an improved 401k match.

I have been working at Marks Paneth full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The professional staff is awesome and great to work with. Good life/work balance. Receive time and a half during busy season due to NYC law.

    Cons

The firm's PSG is one of the most poorly run and inconsistent review departments I've ever dealt with at a CPA firm and it is EXHAUSTING keeping up with their changes. Management doesn't care.

    Advice to Management

    Stop letting PSG run audits.

    A lot of turnover

I have been working at Marks Paneth full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

I think management is dedicated to making positive improvements in the personal and professional lives of staff in so many different ways (networking, wellness, career advancement, benefits, support of working parents, casual dress, etc.). The rate of positive change makes for a very rewarding experience at the firm and I'm proud to be a part of it.

    Cons

I have no cons to share.

I worked at Marks Paneth full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Pay OT
    Generous PTO and paid holiday
casual attire: able to wear jeans everyday if you dont need to meet with a client. However, not allow to wear sneakers. Warning, HR walk around the office and check if you are wearing the appropriated shoes.

    Cons

Poor Management: some employees watch netflix and take 3 hrs lunch breaks and still able to get away. No punishment and they get rewarded for the minimum work they do. While the hard working employees get nothing
( no promotion nor a good raise).
    Special treatment to certain people.
    Benefit sucks
HR is not helpful and extremely unprofessional. They dont take employee inputs
    Promotion is slow

I have been working at Marks Paneth full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

People are treated as adults, no micromanaging, free busy season dinners

    Cons

Does not have a good onboarding process. Not a cohesive environment, for instance you cannot go to anyone for help, each team is completely separate, also people are hired only for busy season and they are not upfront about it. Also beware of starting off on the wrong foot with a certain Bipolar manager in the New York Office , she has some kind of hold over the partners and you can get fired if she does not like you regardless of how hard you work.

    Advice to Management

Be fair and honest with your hiring and have a better onboarding process

I have been working at Marks Paneth full-time

    Pros

I like the fact that the firm is large and has a solid support structure (e.g. IT department) but the ability of an individual to push for change (as opposed to just being noise in the background of some larger firm).

    Cons

    More work from home opportunities

I have been working at Marks Paneth full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Independence in the office - get your work done and no one will bother you
    2. Generous/Flexible PTO
    3. Open door policy with managers and above
    4. Paid overtime

    Cons

    1. Very political - unless you are “favorited” hard to move up and company is responsible for creating a lot of turnover. The structure of promotions is very poor. Success in the firm depends on your manager/partner, no your actual performance.
    2. Training is pretty much nonexistent
    3. Weak benefits - very poor 401(k) match and VERY expensive health benefits
    4. Work Big4 like hours
    5. Management is a mess and all over the place, could be a lot better.
    6. A lot of partners are old fashioned
    7. Work from home policy/summer hours
    8. Doesn’t value CPA as much as they should upon earning your license - not a lot of CPA between associate and manager levels

    Advice to Management

The accounting industry has high turnover but the loss of excellent talent is a direct cause of managements and HRs lack of effort to retain the top tier talent. Get more involved with career development instead of saying you are.
