I have been working at Marmon Group full-time

    Pros

Very strong leadership at all levels, especially at corporate in Chicago. Some of the smartest people I've ever met work at the various management levels. 80/20 is well taught and disseminated to all levels. Work/Life balance is the best of any company I've ever worked at. They genuinely care about my development and my person.

    Cons

It's not really a "con" per se to me, but it could be for others used to a more traditional corporation. Due to segmentation, the organization is relatively flat. Managers/Presidents are held accountable for many details of the business that elsewhere would be assigned to shared resources. Personally, I thrive in that environment, but I've seen others fail.

    Advice to Management

Please keep up the great work

I worked at Marmon Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Company is well established and well financed with a diverse array of businesses under its umbrella at one time long term focused

    Cons

Over the years focus became monthly then weekly and finally daily. This negated any opportunity to focus on direction and growth

    Advice to Management

Micromanagement is being promoted as "leadership"

I worked at Marmon Group full-time

    Pros

Long time employees; perfect place to retire from. Great benefits and incentives. Cohesion between employees and a nice family culture.

    Cons

A lot of employees did not receive recognition that they deserved. Upper management clearly did not know how to delegate nor make decisions. This caused a lot of thumb twiddling. Pay scale was very biased and unfair based on actually job duties.

    Advice to Management

Communicate with employees and other management. There is no reason that any management should be left out of the loop when the information relates to them as well. Show recognition to employees.

Knowledgeable, experienced and caring colleagues assist as needed

    Cons

    50 to 75% travel
12+ daily hours when on the road running projects
Pay is a little on the low side for an experienced project manager

    Advice to Management

Take care of your employees. They are your greatest asset

I worked at Marmon Group full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Financially stable organization. Part of Berkshire Hathaway. Opportunities exist provided you agree with their way of thinking. Turnover helps some to get ahead.

    Cons

Upper management only looks at numbers and has no care for its employees. They need to understand their businesses better to make decisions.

    Advice to Management

They won't listen. Pointless to state the obvious.
