I worked at Marquee Cinemas part-time

    Pros

    Free tickets
    Discounted concessions
Fairly easy position that doesn't require a lot of high level thinking

    Cons

Movie theatres work every single holiday. Yep, all of 'em. Thanksgiving, Christmas...

    Advice to Management

More employees and shorter shifts. It's hard to pull 8 hours of nonstop service to the public

    Pros

    • good first job if you're under eighteen
    • very easy work
    • you meet new people
    • you learn how a movie theater is operated

    Cons

    • co-workers are 90% teenagers (mostly girls)
    • boys only ever do cleaning and podium
    • you're treated like a child no matter how mature or how old you are
    • no opportunities to learn anything new after six months
    • no chance of promotion or raise
    • very boring most of the time
    • no free movies or half off concessions
    • scheduling issues
    • lots of drama and gossip (within management as well) • they're open 365 days a year (you will work on every holiday unless you submit time off - you're not guaranteed time off either)
    • you're lucky if you get paid over $300.00 in one month
    • everything eventually started breaking at once (poppers, fryers, drink machines, theaters, cleaning equipment, etc.)
    • they'll call an ambulance for a customer with a panic attack but not for a worker who got electrocuted on the job
    • sexual harassment from co-workers and management
    • no paid breaks or time off
    • they don't trust their employees
    • if you call in with an emergency, they will make sure to tell you that you're in the wrong
    • very strict phone rules (no phone allowed in the building, even on breaks)
    • they break their own rules
    • your concerns are laughed at by managers, no matter how serious they are

I worked at Marquee Cinemas part-time

    Pros

Not really any at all other than money.

    Cons

No more privileges. An unexperienced manager.

    Advice to Management

Learn to hire better people who don't frighten employees and customers. Actually do your job.

I worked at Marquee Cinemas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Not a bad choice for a high school or college student.

    Cons

The hours and pay leave much to be desired. No chance for staff to receive any sort of pay increase or promotion. Company is very neglectful of building upkeep, examples include AC units quitting during July and water dripping into the lobby during storms.

    Advice to Management

Offer razes and bonuses to both floor staff and management if they have earned it. Pay closer attention to building upkeep.

I worked at Marquee Cinemas part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    -free movies
    -some free or discounted concessions
    -nice customers and regulars
    -free movie props and posters
    -thirty minute breaks
    -fairly easy job

    Cons

    -rude employees
    -rude management
    -lazy management
    -management doesn't address problems
    -verbal abuse/bullying ignored
-poor scheduling (they will schedule you on a day that you aren't supposed to work and leave you responsible to find a cover)
    -management picks favorites
    -no raises..everything
    -average 6 hours a week
    -highly overstaffed
    -lack of proper sanitation supplies
    -desperately needs renovation
    -working all holidays
    -careless ceo
-unfair punishments (ie No one is asked to bring in a doctor's note for one shift, ever. Until randomly one day I called out sick and he said that it was fine and they could handle it. The next day I came back I was told that if I didn't have a doctor's note I would be suspended for two weeks. The same day another girl had called out and she was not required to bring in a doctor's note)

    Advice to Management

There is not much good I can say about this place. Management is God awful and needs to be scrapped. Employees will Bully other employees into quitting and management does nothing to stop it. There has been almost no renovation in the 18 years it's been open, except digital screens and change of carpet. There needs to be major change in this place and unfortunately neither the ceo or the management care enough to make it happen. When I quit it felt like I had escaped from my worst nightmare. Unfortunately one out of the three managers drags the entire place down and he is very petty and spiteful. Searching for a new job has been difficult as well because this certain manager will call me a terrible employee, but when the other two managers (who were my primary supervisors) give excellent and honest feedback to my possible employers.

    Pros

There is absolutely nothing good to say about this place. There are no opportunities for advancement, no raises and the average weekly paycheck is under $200.

    Cons

The pay is minimum wage with NO RAISES EVER. You'll work around stupid high school kids that don't take anything seriously. I was told even if someone works 80 hours a week you don't get overtime pay because it's considered the "entertainment" industry. Hated this place.

    Advice to Management

Stop paying people that have over 3 years experience the same as someone who has worked there ONE DAY!
