I have been working at Marquette University part-time

    Pros

Easy entry-level work for students with good pay. Good way to get through school year with a little bit of cash in your pocket.

    Cons

There's a bit of a learning curve to it. After a few days it makes good sense, but it takes repetition.

    Advice to Management

Focus on training younger students so they can stick with it their entire college career. It will make the process easier for everyone.

I worked at Marquette University part-time

    Pros

Great collegiate community. Excellent research resources and support/guidance for adjuncts within the department.

    Cons

Extremely poor wage compensation, and no benefits. For the effort involved in the job, Wal-Mart and McDonalds pay better. This is just sad, and I let my students know how little their non-tenure-track instructors earn, in an environment where tens of millions of dollars are being spent on new buildings and property acquisitions.

    Advice to Management

The longer you treat adjuncts like an inconsequential cog in the machine that deserves poorer compensation than your janitors, the worse the impression you will make on the collegiate community at large. There is a clear sense of hypocrisy in an institution whose Latin motto is “Cura personalis” (care for the whole person.)
