I have been working at Marriott International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I can only speak from my personal experience and for the Courtyard brand that i work at.

Working Audit (overnight) allows me to be flexible with my school schedule in order to choose the best school schedule that suits me. My managers and supervisors work closely with me and working with my school schedule.

The discount you receive can be a pro (see cons for cons of discount). It is nice to be rewarded with a discount through out the year however the best is in Nov- Jan where you get the employee half off rate which is incredible.

The room for advancement is always attainable as people are constantly being promoted or moving on gaining more experience in another section of the hotel so don't be afraid of the advancement opportunities.

    Cons

There are very few cons for me but one would be the hotel is open 24/7 so you will have to work a few holidays.

Another con would be the employee discount although the discount can be great sometimes you can find cheaper rates for similar level hotels that aren't a part of Marriott so if you are on a budget you might just skip the employee rate as it wont be the cheapest all the time.

    Advice to Management

Keep working with your employees i know sometimes you cant always be accommodating but most of the people are going to school and working and have families.

I have been working at Marriott International full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great people, healthy environment and benefits

    Cons

Day shifts can be stressful because of large numbers of guests to handle.

    Advice to Management

More consistent training, though certainly better than most companies.

    Pros

New people in and out the door everyday, easy front desk work. Overnight shift was usually not too busy. Coworkers helped out

    Cons

management did not give many opportunities to advance, did not help staff in crisis. only cared about sales and the amount of sales you brought in

I have been working at Marriott International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The Marriott that I work at is very unconventional in nature for front desk work.
I have found that many of the duties of managers are placed on the front desk.
My location is demanding with a much higher than average duty list and coordinating housekeeping's paperwork will push multi-tasking skills more than a typical associate in the same position elsewhere.
Most of second shift and night audit is run solo without another co-worker that's not a manager or night houseman, this allows for freedom of time management and self improvement during out of the normal situations.
Being able to finish tasks of the day or week early, I have access to many training opportunities on the company's website for many types of departments including other brands within the Marriott name.
This job is a great learning place for someone who wants time orientated challenges or pushing their skills with veteran travelers.

    Cons

Originally, I interviewed and got hired on with the premise that Marriott had a quick progression up for management opportunities.
Mentor-ship for higher positions at my location was non-existent.
While I do believe that this is a great place for self-improvement, the pay does not fit the amount of responsibility given.
I only see this position/location only as a short term investment for learning purposes.

    Advice to Management

Monthly reviews with how to proceed into new positions would help increase retention.

This company values the associates first and customers 2nd

I have been working at Marriott International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Health benefits, room specials, flexible schedule, family style environment. Opportunities to move within Marriott all around the globe because of how large the company is.

    Cons

Not many opportunities come available unless someone leaves because everyone loves staying in Marriott. The pay could be better also, but considering all the other benefits, it adds up.
