I have been working at Marriott International full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Discounts (cheap hotels as low as $19 on certain nights all over the world), medical and retirement benefits, PTO, company values, and opportunity to move up or change job titles

    Cons

Company cares more about income than their employees, it is a front line employee's "job" to get yelled out, according to corporate.

    Advice to Management

Your front line employees are just as important as management and sales, believe it or not. You can run a hotel without sales and events specialists but you can't run a hotel without the front desk and housekeeping. Remember where you started.

I have been working at Marriott International part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great reputation and access to lots of guests, almost always busy, 401k and health insurance available, ability to pick up hours in other departments,

    Cons

Very corporate setting, hierarchy of management is extremely important, doesn't feel like lower level associates have any say in anything, raises almost never happen,

    Advice to Management

Care for your associates. It may seem more important to do things by the book and according to all the rules and regulations, but your associates should come first. "Take care of your associates and they will take care of your guests" was said once by Mr. Marriott, and many managers don't take that to heart.

I worked at Marriott International full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

amazing support and benefits. a strong structure for day to day operations. high level of integrity and strong values.

    Cons

not always good job advancement, get pigeon-holed easily. slightly lower pay offset the good benefits.

    Advice to Management

stop selling off corporate hotels to franchisers who do not care about the employees. watch over franchises better as they do not uphold the same values as the parent corporate company does.

I worked at Marriott International full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Great company to work for. Coworkers are extremely friendly and helpful. Computer system is very easy to get accustomed to.

    Cons

Insufficient amount of employees at new hotels can make setting rooms for future guests difficult. There is only so much a few employees can do in order to clean 200+ rooms.

    Advice to Management

Make sure to keep up with employee training. Platinum members knew more about the company than some employees did which made it difficult to assist them.

I worked at Marriott International full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Marriott really cares about their guests and employees, and it shows, daily, through their ethic, actions and training.
Management was always willing to make accommodations for their employees, within reason.
Everybody was friendly to each other and was able to be themselves. There was no lack of personality at Marriott.
Marriott allows you to explore different positions throughout the hotel, and frequently hires within. This opens up opportunity for promotion.
Marriott is involved with many other companies and services that offer benefits for not only their employees, but the community as well.

    Cons

Scheduling can become overwhelming and physically-tolling if there is a short staff.
It took a long time to resolve reoccurring issues. (This was at my hotel, specifically)
