I have been working at Marriott International full-time

    Pros

Working at the Marriott is a great way to get your foot into the luxury hotel stay experience. A business that truly cares about it's guests more than most can even claim, much less do.

    Cons

With such a rapidly growing franchise, it's often changing small elements of the hotel and inner workings which can cause some confusion within the employment.

    Advice to Management

Commit to decisions more; Don't choose one outcome only to change it to another so quickly because the executives who do not know the property or culture of the area think it should be different.

I have been working at Marriott International full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Marriott is a great company to work for, they typically hire within and try to promote up. A lot of different types of roles, especially in the full-service arena (Marriott Hotels, JW Marriott, Renaissance, Ritz Carlton, Westin, W, Sheraton, Delta, and probably a couple others). With Marriott's latest acquisitions of Delta hotels and Starwood hotels, there are a ton of opportunities, though spread out through most major cities. Healthcare packages are pretty competitive, better than most companies I'm aware of. Individual development is pretty good for those in manager type roles, quite a bit of money and resources are spent to improve talent. Company is very diverse and makes a good effort to being accepting of all.

    Cons

Employee discount is lacking, but is partly due to the large success in the past several years. Running higher occupancy and driving higher rates typically means the associate rate is likely to be sub-par or just non-existent in most cases. Compensation is decent, but seems to be lagging behind the rest of the market. For instance, I've noticed the recently acquired Starwood hotels generally have higher compensation, and I doubt they'll consider realigning the two. Company is not green at all, and don't be fooled at all by the signage talking about saving the planet by not cleaning your room each day. This is strictly an initiative to cut down on housekeeping wages, and that's all. Also, company has a very top-down leading structure, very bureaucratic in nature.
