I worked at Marriott Vacations Worldwide full-time

    Pros

Nice resort setting in nice locations.

    Cons

LONG hours with minimum pay. Senior leadership will expect you to be there for 11+ hours and will frown on you if you need to leave at 10 hours to pick up your kid from daycare! It's the worse feeling to be treated this way after working 10 hours all day outside in the heat! The GM should be more involved.....and actually have a conversation with the managers at the resort who are doing all the "grunt" work. Lack of support for managers from senior leadership - they are too tied up with the politics with the corporate office. Too many people have been in positions too long so there are no growth opportunities across the board - from the resort level to the corporate level. It's too bad because they have very talented associates who want to do more with the company but the opportunities are just not there. It's all about the scores that are ultimately tied to a bonus for senior leadership. Managers and department heads are not bonus positions! They are pushed and pushed to do more and more and have absolutely no recognition for doing a great job and achieving great scores! A High Five from a senior leader does nothing for those who work physically hard all day in the heat/rain/cold weather and dealing with uncontrollable issues that have been problems for YEARS. At one particular resort in Orlando, there are mold/mildew issues that have been going on for YEARS! Guests have been known to get sick and associates/managers have been known to get sick as a result of working in these conditions. It's awful! The old GM had the attitude "it's always been this way" and the new GM blamed the managers who work there in housekeeping and engineering when it's been a problem for years and years!

    Advice to Management

At the resort level - have a conversation with your managers! You will find you have very talented people working for you. STOP trying to make work more complicated than it is - it is either clean or it's not; your staff are either friendly or they are not. STOP making action plans for action plans and more action plans to accomplish a simple goal. Go back to the basics of hospitality and you will be surprised on the results you may get. STOP blaming your staff and get to the root of the issue first then FIX IT!

I worked at Marriott Vacations Worldwide (Less than a year)

    Pros

Benefits, people in my department was awesome.they had potluck all the time in my department....they did give warning before firing you.

    Cons

They pay structure is awful! You're just a number to them.you can be replaced very fast. They give deals to their favorites people...Miro managed

    Advice to Management

They need to show that they care more about their employees. Stop giving all the deal to your favorite people , it demotivated other from meeting their goals.

    Pros

Great company, friendly management and nice work environment.

    Cons

Minimum wage with a fairly small potential to earn bonuses. Unrealistic goal expectations in general.

    Advice to Management

You will continue to have a very high employee turnover unless you figure out a better pay/goal ratio. This in my opinion is losing you talent and thus money.

I have been working at Marriott Vacations Worldwide full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The management tries to keep each employee involved with committees and different side work other than the monotony of working in a call center. The travel benefits are also pretty good if you can find availability.

    Cons

The company is unorganized. Employees are under trained and more then half of the phone calls we take are correcting other employees mistakes. There also is a sell, sell, sell attitude here. Sales reps constantly lie to owners to get them to purchase more ownership without any sort of reprimands. The ethics here are all sort of whack. We are supposed to be service providers but lack in providing any service that helps the owner.

    Advice to Management

Train better, stop pushing sales so hard and get back to the Marriott way of serving the customer.

    Pros

Good benefits for traveling in off season
You meet cool people. Co workers and guests alike

    Cons

Upper management only promotes their favorites. Even if they are terrible employees. I worked with the company for 3.5 years. I knew my job inside and out. But was passed up twice for a position that I had already been doing. I have a degree in hospitality but it doesn't really matter to upper management. I then got to watch while both of the hires they promoted over me messed everything up on a daily basis. After 3.5 years with the company I threw in the towel and walked away.

    Advice to Management

Hire the loyal workers that have proven themselves instead of your new favorites. You might have a lower employee turnover.
