I have been working at Marriott Vacations Worldwide full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Hotel discounts, work life balance, easy work.

    Cons

There are definitely office politics. The competition to get a promotion is fierce and often a more qualified individual is passed over due to favoritism. We work with several systems that often break and are expected to maintain "experienced conversation" with owners. It makes sense to invest in new technology or be more understanding that it's unrealistic for associates to perform at a top level. While the attendance policy is liberal, a large percentage of associates have fmla and come and go as they please, leaving the rest of us stressed and treated unfairly. It's easier to lie and apply for fmla to ensure job security.

    Advice to Management

"always do the right thing." Value your honest associates who bust their back for the company vs catering to fmla employees.

I worked at Marriott Vacations Worldwide full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Marriott does pride itself on good employees, management, and providing the best customer service out there - I can't speak badly for any of these items. My management team was friendly, uplifting, fun, and easy to talk to. The higher-ups who would come in from time to time were just as friendly and inviting. That's a big plus for such a large company.

    Cons

As a college graduate with a Bachelor's Degree I was hoping and expecting to be given more responsibility and/or training to move me up in my hospitality career. Marriott seems to have such strict guidelines involving promotions that it almost felt like they were keeping me from developing more skills to prepare me for future opportunities. Day in and day out the same reports and meaningless tasks were completed, and for just $10.00/hr, I could've been having more excitement behind the counter of a fast food joint.

    Advice to Management

Allow your employees to learn and strive for more
Find a way to make reports and multiple hour long checklists not so boring and redundant
Encourage more responsibility for new hires & college grads eager to get out in their field

    Pros

    40 hr work week
    Family culture among the employees
OT if you ask for it
Benefits are good (if you can afford them)

    Cons

    Pay is not great
    Upper management is a pain
Only promote brown nosers & never want to discipline said brown nosers
Favoritism even amongst upper management is not a good look
Upper management focuses on things about individuals that really don't matter but don't care about bigger issues

    Advice to Management

Stop the favoritism. Stop nit picking about irrelevant things. Focus on things that actually matter.
