I worked at Marsh full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good financial compensation, allows tele-commuting, fast expense reimbursement.

    Cons

Too many layers of management, Upper management gets all the bonuses.

    Advice to Management

Pay lower management and support a "living wage" at the minimum.

I worked at Marsh as an intern

    Pros

Great work life balance with vendor facing opportunities. Interns were able to manage up and drive what projects they wanted exposure to. Good pay.

    Cons

Some of the work was incredibly manual - reconciling insurance policies by eye. Additionally, there was a lack of exposure to data driven solutions and the budget. This was probably due to the department.

    Advice to Management

Interns should probably report to VP's instead of SVP's for more face-time. Overall the ability to own a project and task list was rewarding.

I worked at Marsh full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Great exposure to the insurance industry as a whole
    -Smart colleagues, good mentorship opportunities
-Older population, upside potential for younger employees
    -Exposure to multinational corporations
    -Great training ground

    Cons

-You do not increase your pay without moving back and for between insurance brokers and/or underwriters
-Management within each department does not have the ability to pay their younger employees at a market rate
-Pay structure and promotion structure is very regimented (i.e. as an entry level associate, you cannot be promoted to an assistance vice president until you work at the company for X number of years). All of this seems to be dictated to each department from executive management

    Advice to Management

-Give each department the freedom to run their groups as they see fit
-Support your younger workforce - they should not have to leave the company to get adequate pay
