I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are some amazing people working for this company. People I enjoy seeing and collaborating with every day. MMC offers a large suite of benefits, though employee contributions are high. Decent PTO allotment.

    Cons

Management, from the top all the way down, is a complete disaster. When you can actually get in touch with them or get them to call you back, they're typically dismissive and offer you empty promises. They have no interest in you or your career development. On that note, there really is no opportunity for growth with this company. Be prepared to stay in the same role for your entire career here and receive minimal to no merit increase or bonuses. Work life balance is abysmal, and with the continued flood of people leaving the company this has only gotten worse. Rather than hire new, competent employees they will either just shift the work to a remaining employee (with no adjustment to compensation) or will take months to fill the position, but refuse to pay someone who's qualified enough to perform well in the position. While MMC touts being family friendly and caring about their employees, in my 5+ years experience there I haven't seen that to be the case. More than anything this place has the feel of a good old "boys' club." Sales is where all the awards and recognition are directed, while the rest of the staff is ignored and overworked.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees, you have some fabulous people working for you! But with no rewards, recognition, reasonable bonuses or salary increases, and no way for your employees to move forward in their career you will lose your top performers. Work on hiring competent management who are actual leaders and care about their employees.

I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Large corporate environment in need of TLC. Ripe with opportunity to implement best practices, if management will allow it.

    Cons

Most of MGTI senior management are technically inept, and more concerned with maintaining a facade and shifting blame. Collaboration between teams is non-existent.

    Advice to Management

Stop pushing away top performing colleagues. Micromanagement and 1.9% raises for top performers is not going to cut it.

I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Company has a good reputation

    Cons

Employee growth and career development not a priority here.

    Advice to Management

Company has become centralized to the point where local management has no authority. Allow management to manage their functional areas and monitor developments. Micromanaging of local offices by Home office undermines authority.

    Pros

Became a fully licensed agent. Very hard to get fired from them.

    Cons

Constantly saying one thing and doing a complete other. Worked for them for almost two years and left because I was tired of being lied to.The management is a reactive instead of proactive. They will promise people a lot and deliver none of it.

    Advice to Management

Stop lying to people. Follow thru with what you say you will do. Hire management with more experience.

I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Marsh offers great benefits. Good starting salary.

    Cons

Raises are rarely given if ever. Staff is kept very lean, pressure to do more with less is a constant. Regional offices and Corporate results overweigh any accomplishments of small offices. ZonalRegional Heads either don't care about personnel or do not understand the business or workloads.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are your greatest asset, show them respect. Too many stress related health issues in this company, you better change the model.

I worked at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great benefits, good PTOs, lots of company discounts.

    Cons

Constant change of department direction, management, cannot retain good employees, terrible exit interview approach. Performance review largely based on sales goal % on an account management position.

    Advice to Management

Should evaluate staff's performance based on the individual's work load and performance, not the overall office production and/or the entire Marsh USA sales production. Employees do not feel they are being valued.
