    Pros

Met a lot of great people. Large organization that offers tuition reimbursement. Offers a great work life balance. Opportunities to travel exist and it's not a very stressful environment.

    Cons

You feel like a cog in a wheel and your day to day tasks are not attached to anything meaningful or significant. If you want an office job that's 9-5, this works but not if you're an ambitious person who wants to "move the needle".

    Advice to Management

Good leadership team overall. Try to inspire employees more. It's a drab industry being insurance and all but find ways to connect people with the overall vision.

    Pros

    Cons

As you rise to the top in HR, you realize it's a struggle for power. Sexism is an issue.

    Negative Outlook

I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good 'first job'
    Nice building.
    Lot's of talented co-workers.

    Cons

Restrictive budget for hiring and promoting.
    Complaints about harassment go ignored.
We say we love innovation but employees who create new tools and systems are not compensated.

    Advice to Management

Stop focusing on having the easiest, most rewarding job you can and actually try to develop your workforce. Most managers have seen their title change 4 times in 2 years, while everyone else is stuck with no opportunities.

I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

nice people who want to do the right thing always

    Cons

convoluted processes and procedures which alone account for a significant chunk of the costs and time associated with any initiative. All of this results in IT teams not being efficient or nimble to react to changing business needs and making it very difficult to quickly align to corporate strategies

    Advice to Management

Invest in technology and drop the walls between opcos esp. IT

I worked at Marsh & McLennan Companies (Less than a year)

    Pros

Very diverse and inclusive culture across the four companies; cohorts are nice and supportive in answering questions

    Cons

Limited systematic on-boarding materials; limited synergies in terms of practice sharing across the four companies.

    Advice to Management

Managements are proactive in listening to employees voice; great opportunities for communications by townhall meeting and discussion sessions.

I worked at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, good PTO and constant learning through software changes, acquisitions etc

    Cons

No weekly one on one meetings with employees for coaching and career development. Leaves employees in the dark.

    Advice to Management

Mandate weekly one on one discussions to gage employees current work load, offer suggestions, provide feedback while it happens so the employee can gage the following week if he/she improved. Also promote quarterly employee manager's manager meetings where employee meets with direct supervisors boss. This lets mid management or higher hear their people's voice and they can provide insight to the employee's boss on how to better coach. It gives the employee a voice and their manager candid feedback to better motivate their team without the employee feeling scared.

    Cons

They do not treat their administrative staff on the same level as other employees. No clear advancement path.

    Advice to Management

Admins are as important to your bottom line as consultants.

If someone hasn't figured this out they are clearly missing the boat. They won't be as successful as they could be until they do.

I worked at Marsh & McLennan Companies (More than a year)

    Pros

For the division I was involved with:
    - Lots of traveling
    - Workload climbed up and down depending on work cycles and thus there were times when you had a lot of time on your hands

    Cons

    - Upward movement too slow
    - Too much politics
    - Learning curve is too slow, so if you want to learn fast and move fast not the best place
    - Some divisions were too siloed and communication in between divisions was virtually non-existant

    Advice to Management

    - Need to change the mentality from we are a slow-moving professional services company to a more progressive mindset
