I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits and fair market value pay, global company (lots of locations), great coworkers, can work remotely if needed and management will try to make as many accommodations as possible to keep you happy and employed there if you work hard.

    Cons

As stated in the title, be prepared to work excessive hours because they are a global company. 10 hour work days is not uncommon.

I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

There are some amazing people working for this company. People I enjoy seeing and collaborating with every day. MMC offers a large suite of benefits, though employee contributions are high. Decent PTO allotment.

    Cons

Management, from the top all the way down, is a complete disaster. When you can actually get in touch with them or get them to call you back, they're typically dismissive and offer you empty promises. They have no interest in you or your career development. On that note, there really is no opportunity for growth with this company. Be prepared to stay in the same role for your entire career here and receive minimal to no merit increase or bonuses. Work life balance is abysmal, and with the continued flood of people leaving the company this has only gotten worse. Rather than hire new, competent employees they will either just shift the work to a remaining employee (with no adjustment to compensation) or will take months to fill the position, but refuse to pay someone who's qualified enough to perform well in the position. While MMC touts being family friendly and caring about their employees, in my 5+ years experience there I haven't seen that to be the case. More than anything this place has the feel of a good old "boys' club." Sales is where all the awards and recognition are directed, while the rest of the staff is ignored and overworked.

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees, you have some fabulous people working for you! But with no rewards, recognition, reasonable bonuses or salary increases, and no way for your employees to move forward in their career you will lose your top performers. Work on hiring competent management who are actual leaders and care about their employees.

    Excellent financial performance
Focus on greater good (ethics) and diversity

    Cons

Client focus organization and therefore work hours can be long

    Pros

    - A lot of opportunity provided by the company for Learning and Development
    - Although it is an international organization they do a good job of being flexible and innovative, something other international organizations I've worked for struggled with.
    - I've had 3 managers who have all been supportive of my growth and helped me get to the next step in my career
    - The company makes it easy to transfer in between operating companies, allowing for a wide range of career paths under one organization
-Comparable compensation and benefits, good 401k match and automatic contribution

    Cons

    - The flexibility and innovation is generally a positive, but it can be an environment of frequent change

    Pros

Large corporate environment in need of TLC. Ripe with opportunity to implement best practices, if management will allow it.

    Cons

Most of MGTI senior management are technically inept, and more concerned with maintaining a facade and shifting blame. Collaboration between teams is non-existent.

    Advice to Management

Stop pushing away top performing colleagues. Micromanagement and 1.9% raises for top performers is not going to cut it.
