I worked at Marsh & McLennan Companies (More than a year)

    Pros

For the division I was involved with:
    - Lots of traveling
    - Workload climbed up and down depending on work cycles and thus there were times when you had a lot of time on your hands

    Cons

    - Upward movement too slow
    - Too much politics
    - Learning curve is too slow, so if you want to learn fast and move fast not the best place
    - Some divisions were too siloed and communication in between divisions was virtually non-existant

    Advice to Management

    - Need to change the mentality from we are a slow-moving professional services company to a more progressive mindset

    Pros

Good people to work with, great benefits.

    Cons

They do not treat their administrative staff on the same level as other employees. No clear advancement path.

    Advice to Management

Admins are as important to your bottom line as consultants.

If someone hasn't figured this out they are clearly missing the boat. They won't be as successful as they could be until they do.

You nailed it! Every person isn't suited for every company and vice versa. Know thy self.

I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Great people and challenging work
    Excellent benefits and perks
    Competitive salary
A Leader in HR Consulting Space

    Cons

    Too many organizational changes
    Too geographically distributed
    Multiple redundant efforts
Some lines of business seem to be more successful than others

    Advice to Management

Action speak louder than words. When you say employees are important then show it by sincere action. Distributed teams makes it hard to stand out in front of leadership.

    Pros

Lot's of opportunity for challenging work to grow your skills and make a contribution with high impact to the firm. Very professional work environment. Good career mobility with many different operating companies under the MMC brand. Good benefits with flexible working arrangements.

    Cons

Big complex organization can take a lot of time to assimilate and become known. Base salary growth barely keeps up with inflation. High workloads.

    Advice to Management

Accelerate investment in technology and process improvements.

Completely agree with the comment on being a big complex organization -something we need to 'fight' continually. This is one of the reason we introduced "Colleague Connect", the enterprise colleague... More

    Pros

Very professional group of people - very bright, dedicated to the consulting field. There's an amazing amount of resources and when I've brought up a concern to upper management, it was addressed and taken care of.

    Cons

My initial training could have been better but the company is addressing onboarding and has committed a significant amount of money and resources to training this year. On the other side, one gets hired here to make things happen so self motivation is key.

Thanks for mentioning both MMC's effort to improve the new hire experience as well as the need to be self-motivated.
