I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time

    Pros

Very nice London office and canteen. Gold location.

Great benefits (especially pension, seemingly unrivalled outside actual pension firms).

Corporate social responsibility aims seem genuine.

    Cons

For such a large company, I'm shocked at the lack of opportunities for progression. There is a lot of talk about careers but no action.

US style promotions (fancy sounding officer titles) do not include additional responsibility nor salary or benefit increase.

Constant announcements of new board members/directors in New York (some of whom are already on other boards) whilst 60% of my UK colleagues received 0% rises this year - a pay cut in real terms.

Large corporate office can feel stifling / isolating, but I imagine that is common.

Colleagues' perception of upper UK management is very low!

Side note - the toilets are regularly left in a horrendous state, I feel as though I am either working with animals or in a nightclub? Amazed this has never been addressed.

    Advice to Management

Involve younger employees more to help them develop.

Encourage more interaction between divisions and teams, as some of us are interested in the workings of the company outside our own computer screens.

I genuinely hoped to have a future here but I am concerned I will be doing exactly the same thing in 5 years' time.

I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Marsh offers great benefits. Good starting salary.

    Cons

Raises are rarely given if ever. Staff is kept very lean, pressure to do more with less is a constant. Regional offices and Corporate results overweigh any accomplishments of small offices. ZonalRegional Heads either don't care about personnel or do not understand the business or workloads.

    Advice to Management

Your employees are your greatest asset, show them respect. Too many stress related health issues in this company, you better change the model.
