I worked at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Its a good company. Top in its field. Upper management knows to be profitable it has to retain its people. They do this by giving competitive salaries and good employee benefits. Periodically they send surveys to better understand the morale of the employees but also to see if there is anything they should add or change in the benefits to the employees. They care and they show it.

    Cons

Due to restructuring in the department there was no work/life balance. Long hours were required with little or no compensation for them.

    Advice to Management

Finish the restructuring soon or you will lose good people that just can't or don't want to do that kind of overtime. It's the nature of the business to do some overtime, but when you get to the point where you don't see your family for long stretches of time then its too much.

I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time for more than 20 years

    Pros

Company with vast resources. Good opportunity to build knowledge and experience Good Benefits Interesting work

    Cons

Performance reviews are on a curve so not all high performing employees will be rated as such. Even with an exceptional rating you cannot assume you will receive a raise. Good performers have gone 6+ years with no increase. Opportunities to advance are low to none in the smaller offices unless you want to move to a major city. Job are often posted to the public (with outsiders hired) before it is posted on the...

    Advice to Management

Need more works to handle the day to day work and communication with clients. Although removing the many layers of management will help overall, unless there are more works to handle the grunt work, nothing will change. Marsh needs to establish formal training that applies to every position in every office with resources available to conduct the training. Expecting the local staff that is already buried in work...

I have been working at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time for more than 6 years

    Pros

There are some amazing people working for this company. People I enjoy seeing and collaborating with every day. MMC offers a large suite of benefits, though employee contributions are high. Decent PTO allotment.

    Cons

Management, from the top all the way down, is a complete disaster. When you can actually get in touch with them or get them to call you back, they're typically dismissive and offer you empty promises. They have no interest in you or your career development. On that note, there really is no opportunity for growth with this company. Be prepared to stay in the same role for your entire career here and receive minimal to...

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees, you have some fabulous people working for you! But with no rewards, recognition, reasonable bonuses or salary increases, and no way for your employees to move forward in their career you will lose your top performers. Work on hiring competent management who are actual leaders and care about their employees.

      Pros

Absolutely wonderful people and company culture. Great work/life balance.

I worked at Marsh & McLennan Companies full-time

      Pros

Met a lot of great people. Large organization that offers tuition reimbursement. Offers a great work life balance. Opportunities to travel exist and it's not a very stressful environment.

      Cons

You feel like a cog in a wheel and your day to day tasks are not attached to anything meaningful or significant. If you want an office job that's 9-5, this works but not if you're an ambitious person who wants to "move the needle".

      Advice to Management

Good leadership team overall. Try to inspire employees more. It's a drab industry being insurance and all but find ways to connect people with the overall vision.
