I have been working at Marshalls full-time

    Pros

Health insurance pretty good. 401k match good.

    Cons

Continues to increase work load and expectations on less and less payroll budgets. Huge disconnect from upper management to what really happens in the brick and mortar.

I worked at Marshalls part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

    Easy job, some growth oportunities

    Cons

    Bad management and low payroll

    Advice to Management

The management is horrible, 3 managers are always following different policies. One manager always has a bad attitude and another is always gossiping and never even working. The payroll is poorly managed which means if the store goes over, other peoples hours get cut. Managers only try to save theirselfs. If they make a huge mistake they say "sometimes we make mistakes were people too" in a nice voice. But if you make a mistake they put all the blame on you and just keep asking "why?!". I've seen it happen to coworkers.

    Pros

This was a great company with good leadership, solid training, and a solid grasp on the reality of retail in this modern climate.
    Good pay
    Descent W/L balance
    Good benefits
    Good Communication
    Good Training

    Cons

As I stated "was" a great company. Over the last 2 years they have become more focused on metric management than on people. There is an obsession with an operational audit which has proven year over year not to impact shrink nor add to overall profitability. Field leadership and above have become increasingly blind to store concerns. The organization that once focused on developing the team, cultivating relationships, and commitment to the company's culture now seems more focused on managing to the number, processes that do not drive profit or customer loyalty, and micro management of the teams.

    Advice to Management

Hit the reset button and back up 2 years before you lose many of the things that made Marshalls a great organization to be part of.

    Advice to Management

I have been working at Marshalls part-time

    Pros

    10% discounts & sometimes on 20% discounts

only need to specialize in one thing

    Cons

lack of communication and training (they expect you to know everything even though they never teach/tell you before)

scheduling only goes up to a few days in advance even though its suppose to be 3 weeks

care more about selling TJX cards than customer service

I worked at Marshalls part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

I was put in the sports department of the store which meant I was in the women's department. I got to interact with customers on a daily basis and it was nice to be social with them.

    Cons

Marshall's never gave me another job position or trained me to work in the fitting room when the had me cover it daily. I was always scheduled to work in the same department and they never let me work as a cashier (what I initially applied for).

    Advice to Management

Expand the departments you train employees for.
