I have been working at Marshalls part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I definitely enjoyed the flexibility of schedules and how I was able to request days off if needed. I would say it is great for those beginning in retail and the environment is friendly. Annual raises but I would say if you put in the work over the course of the year the raise is awesome, but that's only due to starting at minimum wage, but I would say pretty decent.

    Cons

Hard to move up in position for those hoping to advance towards management, I had to sadly watch a friend be promised advancement but was never given the full potential to be one. And definitely one thing I dislike is selling cards and being overly pushy.

I worked at Marshalls part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I feel like it really depends on your manager. If you have a great manager, then your time at the store is better.

    Cons

I mean it's retail so that's a con itself. So the main thing about it is other people not showing up to work, which puts the workload and pressure on everyone else.

    Advice to Management

Yes managers have bad days, but that tension falls on employees who have to face the customers. I have had too many horrible managers just working at one store for two years and they were the main reason why I left as soon as I could.

I have been working at Marshalls full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This company offers many benefits beneath what is advertised. Some including personal counseling and car insurance, 401k and promotion within the company.

I have been working here for a year and a few months and I have gained much knowledge on sales reports and Merchandising. I started out as a part-time cashier and was promoted 2 months later to a full-time front end supervisor. The company sent me to classes to learn how to be even more successful in that position and eventually promoted to an assistant manager. I learned how to have difficult conversations with employees and how to redirect an irate associate for successful results. Being able to manage and direct is an amazing opportunity with this company if you are a tough yet outgoing and empowering individual.

    Cons

Some of the cons of working here include the hours they cut after the big holidays in December. - After new years, less and less people will be working and this makes running the store with a high volume of consumers difficult.
Full time associates experience their hours cut as well as part time associates.

    - If you are well liked by management, they will work closely with you to become successful and grow but should you butt heads with them about a disorderly associate or that they set a bad example for other associates by breaking policy, they will cease communication and disregard you as unimportant and bothersome.

    - New policies will arrive from corporate and they will be loosely communicated between managers and not properly followed setting a bad example that trickles down to part time associates.

    - Can also be stressful here when your job title requires you to manage your associates and not ring up customers on a register but the managers tell you to ring on a register anyways.
This leaves no time to manage as you end up ringing most of the day and you are being paid for not doing your job description.

    Advice to Management

Keep consistency by communicating with ALL managers and supervisors in the store when discussing new policies.
Have better focus on developing associates to the business standards.
Take correctional action with associates that have multiple infractions.

I have been working at Marshalls part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The environment is really friendly, and they make you feel at home. There are many ways to earn rewards and prizes. The managers always make you feel appreciated and everyone is always willing to help out. Managers are more than understanding to help you with your schedule, whether you're a student and you can only work nights or if you work full-time elsewhere and you can only work weekends.

    Cons

If the store is not making their sales goal then hours are cut.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work and always stay positive!
