I worked at Marshfield Clinic full-time

    Pros

Salary was good for the area

    Cons

I was not able to shield my staff from the ever-present dysfunction. The company continues to say that they want to change and be more community oriented, but have made every effort to push out long term employees (formerly their biggest community advocates). Huge waste of funds due to poor facilities planning.

    Advice to Management

Be realistic and stop trying to be bigger than you are. Treat employees with respect and stop allowing the bullying by physicians. Realize that not all physicians are meant for administration/planning and maybe should stick to providing the quality patient care that you keep advertising.

    Pros

Good benefits, standard hours (in the department I was in, anyway.) Job security since they hire too few people for the amount of work.

    Cons

The department I worked in at the Clinic was the most dysfunctional organization I have ever seen. Management had absolutely no clue what was going on; they gave you more and more responsibilities and then couldn't understand why everything wasn't done on time with a nice pretty ribbon on it. They would ignore the 99.9% of the good work you did and rake you over the coals for the .1% you got wrong. Way, way too much work for the number of staff, which was compounded by giving different work to one extremely difficult employee who felt they shouldn't have to do the job they were hired for. Ironic that working for a health care provider probably took years off of my life. Plus the Clinic is constantly complaining about budget woes but every week they announce they're building another new facility or buying an existing one.

    Advice to Management

Instead of worrying so much about expanding all over the state, put some focus on the existing facilities and workforce and try to make them better. While physicians are obviously important to a health care provider, there are many non-physician employees supporting them and who deserve a piece of the pie too.
