I have been working at Marten Transport full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Fast Paced, never boring, good people, good pay, leadership experience, good benefits. The company also likes to promote from within. They really do treat the drivers well. Business casual dress. Very casual on Friday.

    Cons

Drivers sometimes lack respect for office staff, or vice versa. Carlisle Terminal is very old, moldy, dirty. Not very flexible. Stressful = Transportation never stops. Location of corporate.

    Advice to Management

    Keep promoting from within.

I worked at Marten Transport full-time

    Pros

Great company to work for with pay and benefits, you last a year and you have pretty much made it in any other similar job.

    Cons

They care more about retaining their truckers then their fleet managers/account managers. There is a line that is crossed sometimes with the truckers that management blames on you for not being able to keep the driver who decides to quit without notice or the many other scenarios. No management accountability for in house staff.

    Advice to Management

Try and train and focus more on the people in house rather than just the truck drivers and driver retention. Maybe look at keeping in house retention high at other terminals.

I worked at Marten Transport full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great pay, they take care of you. They pay great detention after one hour, layover, winter weather pay (which is unheard of). I would recommend to anyone with at least 6 months of experience (because I think that is the requirement anyway)

    Cons

They got the big brother thing going on a little bit more than necessary in my opinion but that's a minor gripe compared to other trucking companies. They will fire you for incidents and traffic violations etc.

    Advice to Management

Let the drivers tell YOU when they're running late. Don't call them nonstop, wake them up etc when your program tells you they'll be running late.

    Pros

Enjoyed the pay. Best pay for detentions, shop & breakdowns. Good benefits!

    Cons

Terrible Qualcomm navigation system. And make sure to write confirmation numbers as we as PO#.

    Advice to Management

Take better care of drivers and get gone with forced dispatches.

    Pros

Competitive pay scale. Well maintained equipment. Excellent shop staff who are very quick to fix any issues with the trucks.

Very difficult to get home time when needed.

    Advice to Management

Treat you drivers more like people and less like assets.

I have been working at Marten Transport full-time

    Pros

Good pay, equipment, managers, terminals. Pay for detention, pay to park when roads are icy, pay for time spent broke down and motel when truck is in shop and not available. t

    Cons

Too fire happy. I saw many drivers let go the first year for minor mishaps. I think there should be more close up mentor management for first year drivers to help them not have those incidents that get them fired.

    Advice to Management

Always remember that the drivers are people too with hopes, dreams and families that they need to see on a frequent bases.

I have been working at Marten Transport full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good trucks and maintenance department seem to care about drivers more than they used to everyone I talk to seems happy.

    Cons

No much home time. Forced Per Diem hurts drivers in the end.

    Advice to Management

If you would let the per diem program be flexible so not required I would come back to work for you. Per diem just hurts drivers. Not sure if you still have this program.

I have been working at Marten Transport full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I like being able to take time off to help my folks out. (they are in the 70's & 80's) I appreciate their equipment, it is top notch. And most of the other drivers are friendly enough.

    Cons

I drive western regional. I am dispatched out of the Wilsonville terminal. I have found most of the dispatchers there arrogant and belittling towards me and other drivers. They talk negatively about the drivers and treat you as if they are better than your are. When they do, do their job they act as if you owe them for doing you a favor. When you need to get hold of someone in Wilsonville no one answers the phone. Ask them to call you in a message over the QUALCOMM and they never do. Not one time have anyone of them called me even when I was broke down and trying to find out what to do after calling road service. (who are great) When they ask for a favor they rarely compensate all they promise. The arrogant better than anyone attitude is a real turn off. I am considering a change.

    Advice to Management

Drug test all Wilsonville dispatchers. You might be surprised.
