    Pros

Easy workload, Richmond is a great city for new folks to the industry. OK creative reputation but very traditional work.

    Cons

Cliques run the office from top to bottom - the trash talk never stops. I've seen women be patronized everyday at every level. Three great female leaders left over 2 months while under qualified men got promoted. Martin - you've got a problem.

    Advice to Management

Take action on issues around diversity. No accounts won when pitching to largely female clients / brands should make you question what's going on.

I have been working at Martin Agency (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I love my team. Great work environment. Family and work-life balance is important and taken seriously. Benefits are good.

    Cons

There is a lack of transparency in upper management and an unwillingness to learn from past mistakes and work to improve process and business matters.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be more attention given to the fact that we are running a business and less focus on the whims of the creatives that negatively affect said business.

I worked at Martin Agency full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I've been reading a lot of the reviews here. If you're thinking about working here, take what you read with a grain of salt. The agency business changes from year to year and even week to week, so some things people say aren't true really or don't always apply. Or only apply to their position. (My comments included)

    - Good Work/life balance for an Ad Agency. People often leave the office at 5 or 6 and usually get in around 9:30 or later. Sometimes, when things get crazy, people end up working much longer or weekends. (However, if you're not from the agency world, this uncertainty and sometimes long hours could seem bad. This will vary from position to position.)
    - Family friendly. Most people have kids here so there's understanding for those things that just come up.
    - Produce lots of broadcast for big accounts.
    - Low turnover. Many people work for years and years here. That tells you they're happy enough in an industry with high turnover.
    - Opportunities for advancement in the creative Dept. People get promoted.
    - Salaries are competitive with other major markets (NYC, LA) but Richmond living is cheaper.

    Cons

    - Money over creative reputation. Martin will take on some of the most difficult, horrible accounts with little opportunity for creative work and keep them as long as possible to keep the cash coming in.
    - IPG. The holding company for Martin means they've got to meet their numbers or they'll be layoffs.
    - Tons of creative directors to GCD's. No juniors. Too few doers, too many reviewers.
    - More account lead vs creative lead. This is bad if you're a producer or creative wanting to make good things but good if you're in the account dept...

    Advice to Management

Great creative takes sacrifice. Be more selective about clients. Say no. Actually, say it. Put the agency's reputation over a quick buck.

    Pros

Good people to work with and reasonable flexible hours.

    Cons

Top heavy management and creative leadership. Low morale.

    Advice to Management

Don't tell you employees to be agile then not empower them to actually get things done.
