    Pros

Fellow co-workers are friendly. Most are willing to help with overflow (well the ones who aren't lazy).

    Cons

Management sucks and is unwilling to listen. They praise the wrong people all the time.

    Advice to Management

Value the employees you have because you treat your hard working employees like dirt while the lazy employees get treated a little too good. Favoritism has a strong presence which make this a bitter working environment

I worked at Martin Clearwater & Bell full-time for more than 2 years

    Pros

Cheap benefits, the staff members are nice, decent vacation days but dont expect to take them at your leisure. Constant goodbye happy hours because the place has virtually no retention rate. Good "welcome" umbrella. They start a 401k for you but they dont match.

    Cons

Think of all of the horrible things that were considered "normal" in the 80s and that's what this place is truly like....Disgusting boys-club type of environment. Not women, minority, or LGTBQ friendly. Major partners barely know how to use computers so they handwrite everything and things are rarely legible. If you're a woman, you will undoubtedly be judged on your daily appearance rather than your intelligence. They...

    Advice to Management

Give credit where it is due. Have more events to boost morale because it is definitely needed. Invest in your current employees so that they stay. Stop letting partners get away with creating hostile work environments. Get with the times, it is 2018 and the office politics are stuck in the 80s. Make everyone take a sexual harassment seminar. Have junior partners also be part of the management so that the environment changes,...

    Pros

There are amazing people that work there. The assistants, associates, and one or two partners are great to work with. If you decide to work at MCB, your co-workers will be the best thing about it.

    Cons

I don't think anything can make me cringe more than the idea of going back to MCB. So let me brief you in before you consider/decide to work for this law firm: As mentioned in other reviews, it's a lean operation that strives towards efficiency. Considering their intentions to expand, the model seems to be working for the top. But for it's "support staff", it's a system that is highly problematic. Expect to be expected...

    Negative Outlook

I worked at Martin Clearwater & Bell full-time for more than 9 years

    Pros

You have an opportunity to work with some professional attorneys that are incredible teachers!

    Cons

Hours are long & compensation is too little for all your loyalty. End of the year does not measure up to the time that you invested. Work load is not divided equally, therefore, others spending a lot of time on breaks while others do not take lunch, etc.

    Advice to Management

Don't fill the seats with incompetent individuals. Too much time wasted on gossip and not helping your team. Your ideas will run this firm to the ground. Maybe retirement is something to consider.

    Pros

You will really like your co-workers. Staff and secretaries and most attornies are pretty cool.

    Cons

Management lacks people skills and humanity. No one thinks: would I want to be treated that way?

    Advice to Management

Gain the skills needed to actually carry out your job appropriately and nicely.

I worked at Martin Clearwater & Bell

    Pros

Well run operation. MCB is very organized and they run with a lean staff and have good systems in place for their work flow. The hours are good and their insurance is good as well, although not cheap but not extremely high. They do a profit share on the 401K after a couple years which was quite generous. The team of staff is friendly for the most part, minus some odd squabbles that are on-going. You will learn a...

    Cons

Very much a place that discriminates against non-attorney staff. They have a separate Christmas party for the attorneys and high-level director(s) that is a formal Saturday night black-tie party/sit-down dinner, then they have a separate event which they call the "secretary's party" on a Monday night after work (buffet with bar). Truly they should be embarrassed that they do this. It lacks common sense and decency in...

    Advice to Management

Treat employees as you would want to be treated... create something healthy and happy vs. an environment that is depressing and has such a stark division between attorneys and staff. Increase your salaries and offer some steps to achieve a more senior status once certain skills and/or positive attorney reviews are achieved.

    Pros

Great people to work with! Great and flexible hours.

    Cons

MCB is the type of place that makes you wonder what you did in a past life to deserve this. It's the type of place where someone is promoted to do a job that involves giving other people work to do and at the end of the day the one handing out all the work will get the credit for a job well done, including bonus and raise. While the ones that did all the work will be told that they have to do the work and because they...

Positive reinforcement goes a long way, we are here because we want to be here for one reason or another, make us feel like you want us here and appreciate all the hard work that is put in by your staff.

Professional people who generally go top-notch work and care about their clients.

    Cons

Business model is way overdue for an upgrade; firm management is atrocious; culture is disheartening and toxic

    Advice to Management

Respect your people, make them feel worthwhile, and stop micro-managing.
