I have been working at Martin Currie full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Nice office. Flexible working hours for those commuting. Long term careers for analysts.

    Cons

Senior management need to change for fresh blood... Others have said old boys club... Can be very dull sometimes and career progression may be limited. Looking for a change... 5* reviews not sure if I believe those.

    Advice to Management

Avoid any accusations of being an old boys club, reward senior team members by increasing benefits and salary...

I have been working at Martin Currie full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Great pay, lunch time, home time, pay day

    Cons

Arrogant co-workers, lack of personality, fellow employees are focused on personal gain and do not care about the end-client.

    Advice to Management

Honesty is the best policy. Learn from the recent review of AMP and the banks.

I have been working at Martin Currie full-time

    Pros

The company has continued to adapt and improve after a tough financial crisis. Lots of focus on culture, and specifically on learning. Plenty of personal development opportunities. Great staff, very friendly and approachable across the business. Attractive compensation. Great quality of life in Edinburgh.

    Cons

May still lack a touch of ambition in certain areas. Can be a little reticent to innovate. Arguably, these are industry rather than company traits.

    Advice to Management

Continue the focus on people development and learning culture. Be open to new ideas. Keep strategic rather than reactive. Be willing to lead the industry.

    Pros

Smart colleagues. No micro managing. Middle and back office staff are excellent. Good work life balance. Supportive of further education. Frequent charity participation.

    Cons

Executive management team has not changed for a long time. Needs fresh blood. Policy changes can be top down and sudden. No longer independent and employee-owned.

I worked at Martin Currie full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Good central office location. A strong desire to modernise. The Chief Executive clearly cares for the business and its people.

    Cons

Feels like an old-boys club at times. There was a negative atmosphere most of the time. Management techniques and style often questionable.

    Pros

small company so good exposure. Good social nights which are plentiful . Relaxed atmosphere in the office

    Pros

Very friendly and open atmosphere, everyone was always willing to lend a helping hand. Appeared to be a smart and diverse workforce

    Cons

Head office in Edinburgh could be an issue for certain people. Other than that, I didn't notice any obvious cons to working here.

I worked at Martin Currie for more than a year

    Pros

Very collegial, passionate about charity work some very talented investment professionals, Legg Mason ownership a strong positive, passionate about charity work & fundraising.

    Cons

Too many internal meetings and associated admin. A bit focused on process and order which hampered creativity and finding a better investment than one which had been "assigned" by portfolio managers.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the number of internal meetings. Weekly ones are sufficient and anything more cuts into time better spent on stock selection to make clients money.
