I worked at Martin Marietta Materials (More than 8 years)

    Pros

    Stable company with decent benefits

    Cons

Poor management and lack of focus on long term employment. Most employees are terminated around their 10 year adversity.

    Advice to Management

View employees as an important asset, rather than a cost center.

I worked at Martin Marietta Materials full-time

    Pros

Safety is a major consideration while working. All proper procedures are followed to allow for a safe work environment. Benefits start from the first day of employment.

    Cons

There is a disconnect between management and the workers. Scheduling has been inconsistent and your first month is frustrating because you get bounced around between positions. Many things are fixed to get by instead of fixed properly.

    Advice to Management

Create an incentive program to motivate all employees to work together.

I worked at Martin Marietta Materials full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good benefits, but that is also pretty standard across the industry

    Cons

Pay is lower than industry competition. Management treats hourly employees like they are brainless and all positions management are a big political game. Managers regularly lie to employees and pressure supervisors to do the same thing. You are expected to work a lot of hours and are chastised for taking vacation/sick days. Management preaches ethics up until the point that it is inconvenient for them. As long as your boss likes you there will be room to grow in the company. Overall, the CEO had good ideas, but middle management had poor execution.

    Advice to Management

Be honest and fair with employees

I have been working at Martin Marietta Materials full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Benefits are pretty good and on-site gym staffed with trainers

    Cons

Everything from processes and procedures to technology are behind the times. I feel like this place is stuck in the late 90's. There is no opportunity for advancement, no management support, lack of development opportunities, communication within department and outside of the department is non-existent. ZERO flexibility regardless of what they say.

I worked at Martin Marietta Materials full-time

    Pros

    Decent pay. Good benefits

    Cons

Abysmal management. One manager was simply incompetent while others around enabled this to continue far too long. Constant drain on your psyche with high stress levels and no replenishment. Old school approach to technology despite the rows of magazines stating MMM is a top 500 leader in tech (what a joke).

    Advice to Management

Give back to your employees. Allow for telecommute days or something similar. Stressed out people working full weeks AND on-call is a recipe for disaster (as evident by the high turn over)

    Pros

The management staff and training staff are wonderful. They really get you psyched ringer out there and work for them.

    Cons

Unfortunately the department I was in was fragmented and decentralized. There is absolutely no order and entirely not enough experience. There are sever ways to skin a cat but you get a mess if you employ all of them at once. Very poor planning and way too much concern about how much u will owe for what little is issued to you and access to necessary parts that repairs take in
My opinion way longer than they should.

    Advice to Management

Assign a job, assign a temp
Lead man. Issue a scope of work and have supervisors if not put repairmen on track then design a general outline with procedures for workers to have a basic idea of what to do (since many don't have a clue)
