I have been working at Martin Resource Management full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Offers a lot of benefits (medical, dental, 401K, Employee Stock Option plan, and ESOP) which makes up for the low pay rates. Good people across entire company to work with for most part.

    Cons

Very difficult to advance within company. Had freeze on all pay raises the last few years, but expected to take on more responsibility that would normally come along with promotion before pay freeze. Front office personnel are clickish and can be unprofessional at times when you call into the office or ask them for help. There is a lot of bureaucracy.

    Advice to Management

Educate and pass along information with changes that are happening in the company. And find ways to make employees feel appreciated for all the hard being done.

    Pros

Small able to wear a lot of hats. Allow for lots of learning and exposure to new skill sets. Reasonable benefits.

    Cons

Small not able to complete with bigger shops more liable to swings in the market than larger shops. Tend to do things one way because it has always been done that way.

    Advice to Management

Push to do things outside of the norm and update tech.

    Pros

Mid level management is pretty great, especially in the EH&S department. EH&S is a growing department and more focus has been put on this program. Flexibility is the best about working with Martin.

    Cons

Growing company with growing pains, it can be challenging. Travel can be pretty frequent since the company is spread out across the US.

    Pros

The people are really inviting once you arrive at Martin Gas! The pay is decent based on the current economy. They really respect family time & charity involvement outside of work!

    Cons

Pay is based on economy, raises are based on economy & bonuses! Constantly worried if your department will make any cuts.

    Pros

Not a bad company to work for. They treat their employees pretty well.

    Cons

The long hours and low wages tend to be a draw back unless you are looking for a place to cut your teeth.

    Advice to Management

Bring up the wages and find a more regular shift for your staff to work. That will help you get more seasoned professional and create a better work / life balance for your staff.

    Pros

Great benefits, flexible schedules and management, good place to learn

    Cons

Pay is at the low end of the totem pole. The benefits help offset the pay, but it only goes so far. No real advancement lately. Even raises have been put on hold.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees and less on the numbers. They are the ones who put their hands on the products and are face to face with the customer. They can tell you more than just numbers on paper.

I worked at Martin Resource Management full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great team with very good attitudes. We worked together to solve problems. All levels of management understood the importance of environmental compliance as long as justification and options were presented. My experience was EHS wasn't just a catch phrase but a culture and way of life. It was a very good experience.

    Cons

The EHS group is very spread out in various locations so getting together for meetings was difficult. The reason for being spread out was valid, to best serve our internal customers, but it was still difficult. We communicated almost daily via electronic and telephone, so it wasn't as bad as it could have been. Also, I was laid off due to the downturn in the energy industry. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars. Great company and great people.

    Advice to Management

Use electronic meeting tools so teams can communicate better and more regularly, like Skype or other face-to-face meeting tools. This will save on travel costs and improve communications.
