I have been working at Martin & Seibert full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This has been a job where I have found contentment. Even in the most stressful situations, I never feel overwhelmed to a breaking point. This is due to the fact that I work with some of the most compassionate and caring management - never mean or condescending in any way. The rewards are a constant and I love my Martin & Seibert family!

    Cons

The only con ever presented, has occurred the past year from a former employee bent on vengeance and ruin. I pray that this person is forgiven for this sin and that their heart is softened. The future of the firm is bright and promising, and I must thank God for answered prayers because it is He that continues to bless us. There are so many things that determine a company's success: determination, dedication, loyalty, quality. honesty, values, morals, happiness, respect, sacrifices, strength, teamwork, company performance, confidence and faith, which I am proud to say this firm is second to none in all of the above. I am ecstatic to learn that the firm just landed a "giant client." It is not about acquiring clients, but about why they chose our firm. It is because the firm is recognized for its excellence and quality representation of its clients. Now, profits will come when clients receive amazing results from a team that exudes leadership and excellence.

I worked at Martin & Seibert full-time for more than a year

    Pros

I met a lot of wonderful people working at this job. Just about everyone I encountered was very nice, helpful, personable and hard working. Some of the best people I have ever worked with. Worked with some very intelligent and hard working attorneys. Received sick and vacation time, 401K with firm contribution, summer firm trips, office lunches.

    Cons

It's a shame the business shut down. A lot of really good peoples' lives were affected by the actions of a select few who set the wheels in motion. Only received one raise during my employment, considering the firm's issues-not surprising. Was continuously asked to take on more work and assist others without any extra benefits or compensation. I was not able to select or change my working hours but others were.

I worked at Martin & Seibert

    Pros

Enjoyed some of the people, flexible working schedule, enjoyed my job. Benefits were very good and there were options that were helpful.

    Cons

Many of the people were self centered and very aggressive. A good training ground but not somewhere you would want to stay any amount of time.

I worked at Martin & Seibert for more than 8 years

    Pros

If you are the "select" few that the COO Nikki Carper Moore liked then you were fine, everyone else...watch out for you job!

    Cons

Everything! They only gave bonuses "perks" to the people the COO liked. Insurance was horrible so they decided not to offer it, they actually gave raises to "some" NOT all to pay for their health insurance outside of the company. The select few that received it was the favorites. Management treated everyone like trash, they expected us to lie to our clients and customers.

I worked at Martin & Seibert full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I got a menial paycheck. It was close to my house. Had a few people who I could interact and get along with.

    Cons

Absolutely everything else! Pay was horrible! The environment was awful! My office was freezing cold in the winter and hot as blazes in the summer. Our area was right off of the patio where everyone went to smoke, so the constant smoke poured in when they opened the door! Management was a joke! The COO hired family to come in as a manager. They worked you as a slave and you couldn't speak to anyone during work hours unless you were on your 1/2 hour lunch or 15 minute break. Was promised a promotion, but instead got let go with 8 other people on the same day! Staff is treated absolutely horribly!

I have been working at Martin & Seibert full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Honest employees who want to learn and grow will thrive at Martin & Seibert. The firm has stated Core Values, including treating each other with respect and courtesy, that are taken very seriously from the top down. Our COO and Shareholders maintain the highest levels of ethical business practices and expect the same from staff. We all work hard, no doubt about it, but it is satisfying. I am so proud that our clients and business associates know they can rely on top caliber work product from Martin & Seibert! Our attorneys are peer-rated as exceptional year after year and are nationally recognized for excellence. Participation in continuing education is advocated and demonstrated by our COO and shareholders. In addition to the professional benefits of working with the best attorneys, I can attest to the true compassion and personal generosity of our COO and shareholders. Yes, they all consistently give time and money to local charities, but they are also there for staff. I have seen – and experienced – how the COO and shareholders reach out to staff members who are going through a difficult time. I have seen them help numerous employees over the years in countless ways, from arranging for emergency housing to bringing food after a death in the family. They don’t talk about it, they just do it. It is not hard to understand why the staff at Martin & Seibert are loyal!

    Cons

The only hard part about working at Martin & Seibert these days is seeing the damage caused by a disgruntled former employee who has been attacking the firm through various avenues, including this forum. For those of us who actually work at the firm, it is pretty obvious that the common theme in the nasty comments on this site and other places is because they have been posted by the same disgruntled, unscrupulous person. This person’s actions are hurtful to staff as well as management. The negative reviews and allegations of wrong-doing are simply not true.

I worked at Martin & Seibert

    Pros

One of the best things that ever happened to me was getting fired from Martin & Seibert. I noticed someone had written a good review about them, I thought they had paid someone to write a good review on their behalf, then I noticed it was a review for the Charleston WV office, I couldn’t speak on that, all the other reviews are for the Martinsburg WV office & they are all very true!

    Cons

If you read more than one of these reviews you will notice a reoccurring theme the COO! I’m not sure why she has so much control over that place for some reason the Shareholders are too blind to see what’s right in front of their faces or just don’t care, it’s more than obvious they feel they are better than you. I worked there for many years, it was the worst job experience I’ve ever had & most thanks for that go to one person the COO, which I’m sure, would put a smile on her face, she seems to enjoy making most of the employees lives miserable. It reminded me of being back in high school, a (Christian) high school, if you weren’t in the popular crowd you’re going to have a bad day & the worst part the main mean girl is the COO & you better hope she likes you, but don’t worry because she won’t unless you have a connection to her brother or one of her insiders but I still wouldn’t trust her smile because before you know it you’ll be pulling the knife out of your back.

    Pros

Good salary for area, but not worth the mental anguish.

    Cons

Abusive management. Gossiping HR that will report everything you say to other staff. No upward mobility for well-educated staff. Burdensome workload. Has paralegals do attorney work. Shareholders play favorites with staff, very outwardly. Very hostile work environment.

    "Scraping Bottom"

    Former Employee - Anonymous Employee

I worked at Martin & Seibert full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

    (1) The paychecks don't bounce. (2) Any job you have after this will be an improvement. You will know that it cannot be as bad.

    Cons

It is impossible to describe how toxic the work environment in this firm is without being dismissed as a disgruntled employee with an ax to grind wildly exaggerating for purposes of spite. We have all experienced, directly or indirectly, poor management and management that is indifferent to its employees. But management that it is openly hostile to its employees, that condones malicious and sadistic bullies in positions of power gratuitously abusing and belittling employees, sounds unrealistic. Unfortunately in this case, it is true. But don’t take my word for it. Ask around town. Everyone knows people who have worked there (average annual turnover upwards of 25% for attorneys, 35% for support staff). You will not hear a good word about this firm. The alternative is to work there and experience it for yourself. I would not recommend doing this unless your only alternative is living in a cardboard box on the street. Expect to be treated with distrust and contempt and to be greeted with a hundred petty insults a day. Expect to be blamed for anything that displeases the managing partner and his cadre of yes-men and flunkies. Be prepared to be summarily fired at any moment, no matter how long you have been there or how good a job you have done. Expect to be continuously spied upon, lied to and lied about. Do not expect to ever see a raise, a bonus or to hear praise for exceptional effort. Expect to be branded as a disloyal troublemaker if you question anything or suggest better ways to do your job. Expect to feel a dark cloud envelop you every time you walk into that building. There is no other term for it. These people are hateful – so hateful that they have to bribe their own employees with cash and door prizes to get them to attend the annual Christmas party (which consists of the principals blowing smoke up each other’s skirts while everyone else dutifully applauds). And once the loot is gone, the place empties out.

    Pros

Employees were great to work with and hard working

    Cons

Management and Adminitrative Management were always vindictive and conniving. I pray for those individuals. They have no idea how to live a great life. I honestly feel 100% I am in a much better place not working for the company anymore!
