I have been working at Martin's Food Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Flexible with your schedule and good people to work around.

    Cons

Always understaffed and they claim there are never enough hours to schedule more people or people already working for more hours. I go to school and usually work about 24 hours a week and now they cut my hours down to about 16. They bought a robot and all unnecessary stuff that costs tens of thousands of dollars but claim they can't afford our wages. I'ts ridiculous. Higher up management and organization is probably the biggest downfall of this company. Departments that do far less now start at a higher rate. Like deli, they get paid $12 an hour while i'm a butcher with way more responsibly, less people, and it's a far more skilled job and i'm making $10 an hour. The company is a mess and no matter what you ask or suggest or complain about they don't care.

    Advice to Management

Don't really have any advice. Management will do whatever they feel like anyhow so it's a waste of time.

I have been working at Martin's Food Stores part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay, especially if you work in departments. Coworkers are usually pretty chill, I've made several friends here. There are a few little things that make working here nice. If a customer makes a direct compliment about you, you're often (not always) given a 'scratcher' where you can scrape away the silver to reveal a coupon for $3, $5, or $10 dollars. You get free flu shots, and there are often snacks in the break room, sometimes meals for special occasions, though there are rarely if ever vegetarian or vegan friendly. For the majority of the workers though, it's a nice gesture.

    Cons

Horrible communication, change the schedule without telling you and inconsistent schedules (online sometimes differs from printed and can lead to further miscommunications) , and big privacy issues. My phone number was given to a coworker by another coworker at the front desk without my permission. There's almost a constant in and out of cashiers because no one wants to stay here. I have been written up for calling out a day ahead of time due to an injury sustained at work because of not being able to go to the doctors to get a note since I don't have a car. When I was in a department we never got the supplies we needed. We spent months borrowing other departments tools like squeegees and scrub brushes to clean the floor and eventually resorted to pushing the water to the floor drains with brooms when the other departments tools also broke. I only just recently learned, after working here for over a year, that we were supposed to have scrapers to get stuck on debris off the floor. We never had one of those and I don't think they do now either. Like the title suggests, the little things add up. The microagressions, disrespect, horrible lack of communication, etc., it's all too much for me. This is an updated honest review of what I've experienced working here. Take it for what you will.

    Advice to Management

Do not give out phone numbers without direct permission. Create a suggestion box and/or an anonymous place to take constructive criticism. Be attentive of your employees and their feelings. If I'm telling you working x days in a row causes me a lot of pain and I don't want to keep being scheduled that many days in a row, don't brush it off with 'more hours more money' and do it anyways. Communication is massively lacking here. I still don't know whether or not just pressing total will pause my IPM's or if I have to lock my computer and it's been 7 months.

    I worked at Martin's Food Stores part-time

    Pros

Some great things about this job are the schedule flexibility, the friendly customers, and the freedom to work in your own space. Not too much of anyone always over your shoulder.

    Cons

The management is bad and seems to continue to get worse. I've never had any personal encounters since I did my job kept my head down, but I've seen bad management and bad decisions made on simple things. Also, employees almost never get any benefits such as discounts.

    Advice to Management

Better decisions and greater attention to those who do good work. Fairness and justice in choices.
