Great engineers but poor management
Aug 4, 2015 - Staff Design EngineerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Great place to grow technically. Few meetings during the day, and more time to get work done.
Cons
Poor strategy and vision from upper management. Focussed on the little things that do not translate to improved earnings or design wins. IT infrastructure is poor, and is an impediment to engineering. Compensation is lackluster. Management does not seem to value what the engineers bring to the table, and accompanied with the poor compensation results in low morale.

Good upper management

Upper management has improved significantly and is more transparent
Cons
None that I can think of

Marvell better start trusting your employees!!
Feb 3, 2009 - Design Engineer in Santa Clara, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
The only good reason I can think of is if a person wants to grow technically strong & develop a good pace at work & then the person should move on
Cons
Complete lack of confidence right from the CEO to the management team for the employees. Just asking for a laptop/VPN to work from home is just too much !!! Trust me in spite of begin in the heart of silicon valley you don't get the opportunity to work from home!!! Lack of transparency. There is absolutely no visibility into the road map/direction of the product line. There is no visibility in the basic organization, its the first time I've seen a company does not show a organizational hierarchy chart. Any decision from the upper management just comes in as a surprise without any intimation.

good work but more work
Sep 14, 2013 - Senior Software Engineer in PuneRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
very few resources in every team so you will get good work and recognition in the team and upper management. You will work on latest technologies
Cons
Lot of work and work pressure. Management is not very good. No incentives for hard work

Marvell needs a radical change in executive management
Nov 28, 2008 - in Santa Clara, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Free food, it's a job in a terrible economy and not much sexism. Management does try to hire the best engineers possible. Very strong technically
Cons
Management expects 16 hour work days seven days a week. Meetings are scheduled saturdays, evenings - there is little or no respect for employees personal time. Upper management's ability to run a large company is dubious at best - lack of professional executive management Too much nepotism It's a constant state of fear because of the crazy way upper management makes decisions. The company's reputation is terrible - I find it embarassing to say i work there.

Great place to work, growing opportunities!
Jan 30, 2018 - Anonymous Employee in Santa Clara, CARecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Marvell has a great working environment. Co-workers and upper management are very friendly. Being so young in my career, I'm constantly given multiple opportunities to help me grow. I'm constantly being challenged which I love. Work life balance is flexible. Benefits are very good, perks to the company are nice. If you are looking for growing opportunities, then this is the right place to work!
Cons
Can't think of any cons.
- Former Employee★★★★★
Pros
The people were excellent. The work was medially interesting. The largest downside was the structuring of the company. It's extremely secretive so no one knows who to talk to.
Cons
The upper management saw little interest in developing key assets or improving their work force.

Pros
- subsidized cafeteria food is good; used to be free but still decent value and selection - good workout facilities - comfortable campus and convenient location - some signs of progress in hr and finance in establishing processes required to operate a larger company - we still get paid
Cons
- no obvious technical coordination amongst groups - no published organization structure leading to very inefficient communications (always difficult to figure out who to ask about anything) - some people and groups are not very responsive and sometimes rude; they do not answer e-mails at all - people work pretty hard and not very smart - schedules and money drive everything; quality and efficiency are often sacrificed - engineering processes are either non-existtent or very weak - middle and upper management is largely invisible and ineffective

No work-life balance.
Sep 13, 2021 - Senior Staff IC Design EngineerRecommendCEO ApprovalBusiness OutlookPros
Company is moving in the right direction and transparency from upper management is good.
Cons
No work-life balance. You work during the day with colleagues in the US, and you still need to work in the evening to work or to have a meeting with colleagues in Asia. Need to work a lot during weekend too. Upper management gives message about the importance of work-life balance, but most likely your department's work is very demanding.
- Current Intern, less than 1 year★★★★★
Pros
This summer I worked for Marvell as a software engineering intern in Enterprise Storage. The intern program began this year, and despite that, the director of the program, Toby Thomas, did a spectacular job of making it an enjoyable experience. The co-workers I've met so far are all great people. My manager has been in the industry for quite some time, and was very flexible in terms of projects, as long as I got the job done. The vibe I got from the team as well as upper management was a real can-do attitude, which made it all the more inspiring to work here. The meals are also subsidized, and often fairly good. If not, Taco Bell is within walking distance. There's a trail nearby for hiking or biking, and Marvell has a gym that employees can use at any time.
Cons
The benefits for interns are very minimal. We have five paid sick days in addition to paid holidays, but not much more than that. The intern orientation was lacking this year, in part because this was Marvell's first year holding an internship program. Some of the interns weren't even aware that we had sick days. From what I heard from other interns, some managers were not as available for their interns. No relocation compensation, at least for interns.
