I worked at Maryland Department of Human Resources full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

You get to work with some wonderful people. The work is rewarding. The benefits cannot be beat.

    Cons

Not everyone is a wonderful person. The work is underappreciated. Experience does not mean you will advance.

    Advice to Management

The education requirement to move up is silly. Plenty of good people, who don't have six year degrees, should be eligible for advancement based on their experience. Plenty of people move up that latter too quickly when others, who are more deserving, are blocked.

    Doesn't Recommend

I worked at Maryland Department of Human Resources full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The potential to help people is more available than in other state agencies.

    Cons

The leadership of the central agency has had a lot of turnover and with that comes a lack of buy in from senior managers. Process takes extremely long in this agency, making things inefficient.

    Advice to Management

Listen to those that have been with the agency in leadership positions for more than 5 years, they are your biggest asset.

    Cons

Unprofessional management, very high turn over rate, inflexible, management retaliates if called out for wrongdoings, you may not be thoroughly trained

more organization, less retaliation from mgmt for being called out, stop forcing employees to work on comp time projects during work hours to cut costs.
