    Pros

    *Great benefits and co-workers.
*There's room to make a difference.

    Cons

*Pay isn't competitive with the private sector or local and federal government wages.
*Governor doesn't seem to like State government; and really doesn't show concern for its employees. Governor's mansion is just a pit-stop to the White House.
*Computer platforms are decades old. Technology reform is slow coming.
*Governor keeps taking PINS even though we're short-staffed and doing the work of multiple people.
*Salary increases are inconsistent. Cost of living increases ceased when the Republics took office.
    *Low morale
*Wages are so low that some staff are receiving the same benefits as the customers they serve

    Advice to Management

Do SOMETHING to show your staffs that their appreciated. Offer tuition reimburse, even it only for the State's universities.

I have been working at Maryland Department of Human Resources full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Depends on what unit you work in but you may or may not get good supervision. The pay is decent and the benefits are greats. Also, vacation time is generous

    Cons

The workload. The workload starting off can be very low but it will gradually get higher. The max is between 7-10 cases.

    Advice to Management

    Better supervision

I have been working at Maryland Department of Human Resources full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It's a job, nothing more nothing less. Not sure what else to write as I don't see any other pros to being employed with this agency other than a check

    Cons

Management is beyond poor, not for anyone who has a brain and looking to be progressive, this job is for uneducated people who are no longer competitive or marketable. Too many women making emotional decisions instead of following policies and procedures, bureaucratic mess, underpaid and overworked, no leadership not sure why a degree is required to work here when they don't pay you accordingly. This job is for those who just need to have a job with benefits

    Advice to Management

Find new management the lack of leadership and unprofessionalism is why the agency has such high turnover rates, lack of diversity, lack or good judgement, and lack of proper business etiquette all to say the least.

I worked at Maryland Department of Human Resources (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It was a pay check for most employees.

    Cons

Most departments were under staffed in the state local agency and over worked.

    Advice to Management

Please hire staff with the skills to perform the position.

    Pros

Work Life balance here is great. The benefits are good. Pension vesting schedule is 10 years, which is a drawback-and its 7%.

    Cons

    Pay
    Culture
    Lack of integration between departments
    Lack of sense of timing

This organization is NOT for those who are young and looking to advance or connect/network with those who can propel them to the next level in their career. Strategic recommendations are met with hostility or disdain if it doesnt fit into management's big picture. By big picture, I mean being too far removed from reality. This organization is also program driven. If you are not a program person, do not expect for many to understand your line of thinking.

I wont even go there about the pay. This is a place for more mature professionals who could care less for mobility and progress.

    Advice to Management

Stop letting everyone else do your job because you are too busy with your head in the clouds or somewhere else for that matter. Programs still must operate.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

A great opportunity to serve the public and rewarding to see when can make a difference in people's lives! Learning firsthand the many challenges parents face, many of which are due to lack of positive support system.

    Cons

More compatibility of salaries to match responsibilities and skills used for a given position. Also more smarter ways of simplifying the many tasks required.

    Advice to Management

Hang in there and continue to work on finding ways to simplify the many challenges a state agency must face.
