I worked at Maryview Medical Center part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I worked with very smart, intelligent, and hardworking nurses in their ICU.

    Cons

Short staffed and minimal use of outside help like agencies.

    Advice to Management

Hire more, use agency in the meantime, or convert float pool staff into full tie employees with excellent salary and benefit. Offer the people a reason stay when they are deciding to quit.

    Positive Outlook

I worked at Maryview Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Wonderful staff, lots of opportunities for over time, great potential for growth, some really seasoned nurses, really liked management (although other floors had issues), day time hospital administrators were awesome.

    Cons

MD paging system- Other hospitals utilize text pagers which are really convenient. Heavy patient loads. This area of VA has really low RN pay- you work hard for not very much. The DON is a nice woman, but always asking "what else can you do as nurses?" She meant well, but it just showed a disconnect. She didn't really understand how thin we were spread while trying to serve our patients.

    Advice to Management

    Floors need more CNA's.
