    Pros

Prior to a restructure, there was plenty of flexibility to be creative and successful. A few good leaders that will help you grow.

    Cons

Low morale and negative culture. Despite the large company size, minimal investment is made to meet customer expectations. Company operates more like a conglomerate than a corporation, in that each department will rather compete than cooperate to increase revenue. Benefits are lowest I've seen with maybe 50% of healthcare plan paid by company.

    Advice to Management

    1. Considering MNS is a services company, the employees are the product and thus should be invested in, supported and morale a serious consideration.
    2. Bring departments and their financial incentives, together, so that one can work with another to grow the overall business.
    3. If a particular clients business is truly desired, MNS should meet the investment expectations of that client. As some competitors have done and thrived as a result.

I worked at MasTec Network Solutions (More than a year)

    Pros

The Charlotte, NC location is centrally located and easy to get to from I-77. The pay was better than average and raises were forthcoming to deserving employees. Tower hands are obviously paid by the hour, and there was always work lined up. Lots of travel, meaning lots of per diem which was very reasonable.

    Cons

Crew quality was very hit or miss. There were no average crews, only really good or really terrible. This had a lot to do with a lack of experienced, conscientious foremen. Management was always on the lookout for better leads, but often had to make do with what was at hand. They also shuffled crews around a lot, which made it difficult to develop routines and trust. A lot of travel meant that more often than not a majority of the crews were on the road 2-3 weeks per month, which is fine for young, single employees but hell on guys with families.

I have been working at MasTec Network Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Schedule is (mostly) flexible. New leadership seems to care about employees well being.

    Cons

Essentially this career path, if thats what you want to call it, is a dead end. Contractors such as MNS exist because what was once a unionized, steady middle class career has now devolved into low wage, grunt work that offers very little in terms of career growth, advancement, training/education, perks, or benefits. While this certainly benefits big time companies like MNS customers looking for cheap labor, it also drags the quality of workmanship, engineering, and management down with it. People in general don't commit to this career field like they once did, and younger generations are either just passing through or avoiding this field altogether. No one, except and handful of white collars at the top really benefit from this type of outfit. In short, unless you're management this is no longer a career, just a job.

    Advice to Management

Honestly, there isn't much anyone can do. The problem is that contractors like this even exist. Workers may one day need to find a way to unionize and put money back in the hands of talented and skilled workers. As that will likely never happen, I imagine things will just stay the same. My advice to those looking to get into this business is to stop, turn around, and look elsewhere. Get hired by the guy contracting the work OUT, not receiving the contracts.

I have been working at MasTec Network Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management does work hard and care about their employees. Extra time off for Christmas and thanksgiving. Full time employment and the company does not believe in hiring contractors and then terminating them after the project ends

    Cons

Staffing crisis. The company is routinely having trouble with being properly staffed. There is a negative and untrustworthy work culture with current employees
