I have been working at MasTec Network Solutions full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Schedule is (mostly) flexible. New leadership seems to care about employees well being.

    Cons

Essentially this career path, if thats what you want to call it, is a dead end. Contractors such as MNS exist because what was once a unionized, steady middle class career has now devolved into low wage, grunt work that offers very little in terms of career growth, advancement, training/education, perks, or benefits. While this certainly benefits big time companies like MNS customers looking for cheap labor, it also drags the quality of workmanship, engineering, and management down with it. People in general don't commit to this career field like they once did, and younger generations are either just passing through or avoiding this field altogether. No one, except and handful of white collars at the top really benefit from this type of outfit. In short, unless you're management this is no longer a career, just a job.

    Advice to Management

Honestly, there isn't much anyone can do. The problem is that contractors like this even exist. Workers may one day need to find a way to unionize and put money back in the hands of talented and skilled workers. As that will likely never happen, I imagine things will just stay the same. My advice to those looking to get into this business is to stop, turn around, and look elsewhere. Get hired by the guy contracting the work OUT, not receiving the contracts.

I have been working at MasTec Network Solutions full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Management does work hard and care about their employees. Extra time off for Christmas and thanksgiving. Full time employment and the company does not believe in hiring contractors and then terminating them after the project ends

    Cons

Staffing crisis. The company is routinely having trouble with being properly staffed. There is a negative and untrustworthy work culture with current employees

I have been working at MasTec Network Solutions full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Stable industry, great co-workers, love the team building events like annual Cubs game and such. Daytime hours; OT not required but available if you want to work more. Employee stock options and they match up to 4% of 401K contributions if vested after 90 days I believe.

    Cons

Working from home is frowned upon, work hours are strictly enforced, raises are 3% or less a year, no bonus potential, cubicle working on computer all day.

    Advice to Management

Get more involved with the work your employees are doing so you can help out when needed and not just voice criticism without being willing to pitch in to make it better. Fear-style management has improved a lot from when I started 4 years ago.

I worked at MasTec Network Solutions full-time

    Pros

Good people working there, but no opportunities for advancement unless you are sleeping with the VP-GM, or keep quiet about what he's doing like cooking the books, taking monies from scrap metal from the warehouse, and has a baseball field set up in the warehouse for his outside little league team.

    Cons

Dysfunctional VP-GM that can sexually harass, be unethical, and nothing done to him. HR backs him up with all the knowledge they know about him, and he's empowered to continue doing what he does.

    Advice to Management

    Take classes and learn how to manage. Currently they just follow the dysfunctional VP-GM to keep a job. No ethics;
