    Doesn't Recommend
    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Massachusetts General Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Collegial work environment, highly collaborative scientific community

    Cons

Salary is not competitive. Benefits are subpar for postdoctoral research fellows and they charge us more for them. Housing in Boston is too expensive to live close enough to the labs to conduct complicated research experiments. No child care benefits for postdocs (in Boston, child care for an infant will exceed a postdocs annual salary after taxes). No support for families.

    Advice to Management

If there isn't a significant overhaul to the postdoctoral experience at MGH to make it more supportive and accommodating to postdocs with families, then research quality, continuity, and accuracy will suffer. I would never recommend someone to work as a postdoc here.

I worked at Massachusetts General Hospital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great environment with leading researchers, doctors and professors, 403(b) plan. Conveniently located basically in downtown Boston.

    Cons

Long hours, but it depends on your project. Awful traffic at times, better commuter on the subway. 403(b) plan did not match employee contributions. No bonuses.

    Advice to Management

Research fellows perform a lot of hard and excellent work and they should be treated better. The PIs dictate what they want

    Pros

Some of the pros: the health insurance covers almost everything you need here on campus or you can go to the WBH. Good location with public transportation, cafeteria is affordable.

    Cons

The Salary for postdoc (average), long working hours, I don’t see opportunities to grow as an independent research here

    Advice to Management

    Guidance from management is limited
