    I received substantive experience, met a ton of like-minded colleagues, and had many stories to tell when it came time to look somewhere else. Some stay for many years, others for not many. I was the latter, for what it's worth.

    Cons

    The experience you have depends entirely on the committee and the chair person. My committee was not as productive legislatively as I would have hoped.

    Cons

    Plans on a Friday night? Too bad, this needs to be done right now. Differing political views? Suck it up

    Building a network or connections, legislative briefings, depending on you boss you can learn a lot about policy process and issue areas.

    Negative workplace culture, employees are not valued or protected, low pay for inordinate amount of work.
