    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at Massdevelopment Finance Agency full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    Good benefits, 401K. Telecommuting policy.

    Cons

Top heavy, management doesn't care about employees. Raises don't even cover cost of living and are given inequitably. Agency runs like a high school clique - if you're in the clique, you get rewarded, if not, you don't. There's no confidentiality and no support. HR basically rubber stamp for CEO. Toxic environment.

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to morale and repeated complaints about the workplace. Good people have left because they were not recognized or appreciated for a job well done.

    Pros

Benefits are good. Vacation and retirement contributions are very good.

    Cons

Career progression within the Agency is not encouraged and non-existent. There are more staff members with VP titles than any company currently in existence. Very top-heavy, yet 90% of the work is done by staff who are paid well-below market rate. Very political atmosphere and has an "old school" feel to it. Management is always trying to justify their positions at the expense of impeding the career progression of the staff underneath them. Nobody wants to speak up in fear it will "stir the pot" and result in a bad review or further lack of internal growth. Suggestions are looked at as "complaints" by upper management.

    Advice to Management

Don't be afraid to do your job. Promote from within and allow staff the opportunity to advance. Initiate a bonus program. Celebrate the success of the Agency with your employees.

    Pros

Good work life balance and very good benefits. The agency has an inmportant mission statement it follows and there are some hard working people.

    Cons

There is an extreme lack of leadership from senior management. Have not received salary increases in the past four years. No room for growth unless you cut a backroom deal, total lack of transparency. Several managers are bullies.

    Advice to Management

Take accountability. Morale is very low yet management continues to demand and bully there employees for deliverables. There is no incentive to work here.

    Neutral Outlook

I worked at Massdevelopment Finance Agency full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Company has a really great retirement plan if you have previously contributed to social security. The mission is great and many smart and talented people work there. Work-life balance is great and a 37.5 hour work week is very nice. Sick, personal, and vacation time package is very generous.

    Cons

The morale here is incredibly low. It got that way due to lack of raises for over 3 years and the lack of transparency. Upper management does nothing to improve morale and pretends that there isn't an issue. It's not just about money - it's about being respected and recognized for hard work. There are other options to show people they are valued.

    Advice to Management

Get your head out of the sand. Stop rewarding individuals based upon how much they complain to upper management. Don't give raises based upon the "fear" that individuals will leave - reward people based on performance. Be transparent. There are a lot of good people working at this organization - don't let them fall between the cracks.
