I worked at Master Flo Valve Inc full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Always constantly busy, and lots of work to do.

    Cons

Management treats workers like tools. There is no way to move up within the company. Lays are very high, and same with turn over rate.

    Advice to Management

View employees like people instead of a tools used to fill your pockets.

I have been working at Master Flo Valve Inc as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

Company has positive work environment and very friendly employees. Managers get things done but are reasonable and helpful when problem solving is needed.

    Cons

Established procedures in various departments can mean that project work across departments can be difficult to get people to help because it is beyond their job description and day to day responsibilities

I have been working at Master Flo Valve Inc full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This is one of the best companies I have ever worked for. I moved here from Toronto about a year ago and I find this company to be a fascinating organization to work for. Senior managers are very friendly and approachable and they will try their best to help you deliver your projects on time. Regardless of your status in this organization you can go to the General Manager’s office or the President’s office and ask for assistance or advice about your ongoing projects. Education is very important to the company and if you decide to pursue a degree or certification on part-time bases the company will provide support both financially and in time-off if needed. Everyone in the company will get a platinum benefit package (Dental/Medical/Life insurance) and you will also receive free educational assistance if your children are attending University or College (this is almost unheard of in Ontario). I think more important than anything else is the fact that you become part of the Master Flo family. Majority of the company’s business is International so even in the low oil prices Master Flo is doing very well. In Master Flo you will see lots of people who stayed with the company for 20 year or more and that is because of the company's great culture.

    Cons

Public transportation is not accessible to the company’s location so you need to have a car.

    Advice to Management

Work towards paperless systems for the existing process and keep up the good work!

    Pros

People are part of a 'family'
    Owners are caring and respectful
    Private Company
Common Sense prevails with business decisions

    Cons

Staff hires are not always quality hires with a private company entrepreneurial spirit / drive which is not a good fit. This is a hiring flaw that needs to be fixed.

    Advice to Management

To the executive - you need to review staff talent regularly and not assume that management are exempt.

    Pros

There are, like in every company, some amazing people who work hard and try their best. (None of them in management positions.)

    Cons

By far the most toxic, unhealthy and high-school mentality type workplace I have ever worked. Management is abysmal, they do not manage people at all. Human Resources is a joke. The departments are combative instead of co-operative. Each day is a battle instead of team work to improve the quality of the business (which is slipping fast). No advancement opportunities as the organization built as an old boys club (women, don't even think about trying to get ahead). Favouritism is rampant. Just some boys with their toys in the sandbox. Engineering is a dead end place, where new talents are not challenged or appreciated. Extremely high turnover. Company motto is that they have never laid off anyone in 25 years due to economic downturn, that's because they dismiss without just cause (legal in Alberta).

    Advice to Management

Pay attention to what is going on in your own company. Get the managers some actual managerial training. Take your employees seriously and provide a mechanism where they can address intra- and interdepartmental issues. Pull your heads out of the sand.

I worked at Master Flo Valve Inc full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

It's has a very business atmosphere, so your never bored and constantly business.

    Cons

If your seeking a career , certainly not the company to work for. There are no opportunities to move up in company, most employees are voiceless at Master Flo, Management treats its workers like dogs, and after working hard for a year, don't expect a big raise. If though the maximum the company can offer for a wage increase is $1 in most cases expect only 50¢

    Advice to Management

Treat workers like there are human beings and not a tool to build your success.

    Pros

Great place to start your career

Great product, you will develop technically as there is a lot learn. Often provided lunch and learns and various training sessions.

    Co-workers are very friendly.

    Cons

Interdepartment communication is poor and processes are not implented with sufficient management of change. This leads to poor work, or overworking of departments.

Compensation is mid level, dont expect to be on the high end.

Problem retaining staff - great place to start your career, but there is no advancement oppurtunites and no development program laid out.

    Advice to Management

Your people are your strongest assest treat them well.
