I worked at Mastercard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Management lets you know what is expected and the managers do not micro-manage you. They expect communications when difficult issues occur and for the most part they let you do your job. Mastercard has excellent benefits.

    Cons

It is hard to get promoted.

    Advice to Management

Work with employees to either promote them or work with them to transfer to another department.

I have been working at Mastercard full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - People from all departments willing to share information and collaborate
    - Interesting projects with financial institutions

    Cons

    - Horrible HR
    - Some project managers often verbally abuse junior employees and it is impossible to file cases against them

    Advice to Management

    - There have been multiple HR cases against higher project managers since I've joined and no action has been taken, as HR continues to close cases without any action since the project managers are very profitable employees

    Pros

Salary is good, product development process is faster than transitional financial firms.

Still some way from being a technology company.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

Great culture and friendly environment. The company is very open with diversity and you have great benefits. The CEO and the mission of the company is very inspirational

    Cons

There is a limit of how far you can go up in the organization, and thus most of the people make lateral moves instead.

    Pros

Wonderful brand with solid products. Global presence and smart talent. Working with many types of financial institutions is a privilege and a great way to grow your business acumen.

    Cons

For whatever reason the people who hold the power are not nice individuals. They make it a point to sully peoples reputations, damage their career advancement and generally make life miserable if they so choose. HR knows and does nothing to address it. The performance management practices target individuals they no longer want to be part of the organization systematically weeding out tenured and older employees. Bad interpersonal behavior, gossiping, maligning and demeaning commentary by middle managers is commonplace. Good rule of thumb is trust no one. That said, if you are part of the clique and the "in" crowd your star and fortunes will rise. It is really all in who you know.

    Advice to Management

Weed out the bad apples and reward honesty, collaboration and team spirit and quit advancing those people who are harming your franchise. Pay attention.

    Pros

Switch from technical to Management is easy.

    Cons

Poor management, a lot of overtime. It used to be good when I started with the company about 10 years ago, even I need to work a lot of overtime, but I was happy. But In recent years, more politics played. The managers are also double standard, and you can't trust your managers any more, since they shared what you privately told them personal information in a 1x1 meeting with other senior managers. Also, the managers are all share the same boat, so if you have any dispute with your manager, you likely won't have any chance to appeal to your skip level managers.

    Advice to Management

Be fair to the engineers that actually delivered the work. More inclusive, not just listen to those you like or look like you. Be honest and respect the people who worked hard for the team and company.

    Pros

Smart, good people. Great benefits. Office location/environment is lovely.

    Cons

Still quite bureaucratic, but the company has gone a very long way from when I started 5 years ago.

    Advice to Management

Information trickles up but not back down. Internal communications is key to your team's morale and work ethic.

    Pros

Great set of people (biased because I have been lucky with meeting great people, I know others have a different opinion)
    Great benefits
Willingness to learn more by a lot of people

    Cons

Since it is a machine, it's tough to steer the ship away or to a different directions because it takes long.
