    Pros

Great Salary and Benefits, Lots of great technology to works on. Money to spend on technology often not a blocker. Some of the hardest working and smartest people in IT to work with.

    Cons

Lack of real leadership. A lot of managers not many leaders. A lot of politics and not a lot of accountability. MasterCard is an IT Company but many of the Managers lack any experience, vision, concepts or understanding of managing technology. MasterCard management tends to jump on the band wagon on technology and rarely seems to lead. The management has a way of making the engineers and employees feel like they are just cannon fodder.

    Advice to Management

You need real accountability! You make it far too easy to hide and gloss over when bad decisions have been made. Off shore cheap labor can't fix your lack of operational efficiency and lack of commitment to actually taking the right steps to be operationally efficient.

I have been working at Mastercard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

MC is great at marketing it's name so it is a good stop to add to resume. Very competitive benefits. Good bonus but not appropriate distributed.

    Cons

No pay raises!!! That's right, none. They say they are pay for performance, but they are not. Now that the profit sharing and performance bonus are combined into one it will even be less performance based and more the "chosen few" based. They use the Jack Welch evaluation process of ranking employees and only the top few get the bulk of the money and recognition. All others will be within a couple of percentage points when it comes to bonues. Year end rankings are done usually early Oct and then the year end reviews are written to support those rankings even before the employee provides input. They are very big on "smart moves" which is a lateral with no pay raise. They give more weight to self promoting and social justice than actual business productivity and supporting the customer. If you have strong religious beliefs and openly live/support those beliefs you will not have a productive career nor most likely enjoy working there. I would say it's a good entry-level job to get the name cache but is not a healthy place to make a career. Unfortunately it has taken me 15 years to stop be living the hype. The first 5 years they lived up to the hype but it has been down hill as a work environment the last 10 years which corresponds to the IPO and huge headcount/mgt layer increases.

    Advice to Management

Stop marketing to yourself and listen to your employees. Learn that holding people accountable does not make you a bad person. Clean house of those that are professional self marketers but at closer review really have not contributed to the bottom line nor to a positive customer experience. Evaluate your organization structure. Currently it is so convoluted that even internally one can't figure out who does what and more importantly who is accountable for what. Especially in the O&T and Product areas it appears be intentially confusing in order to protect those professional self marketers from actually being accountable for productivity.

    Pros

Great company that provides incredible benefits and bonus structure. The FinTech space is very interesting and constantly changing so you will learn a lot.

    Cons

Needs more openings for younger employees. Too many people are at mid management level unnecessarily. Use that money to create more associate and analyst level positions.

I worked at Mastercard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Organized and lots of cross-functional teamwork. Good benefits and good communication across the company about employee programs. Good training about payment processing across global markets.

    Cons

Like any large company things move more slowly than at small and medium sized companies. This slower movement is also a factor of the high level of security on any financial data -- comes with the territory.

    Advice to Management

Continue to inform employees about the expectations on new programs, providing realistic expectations about deliverables but also noting that the first concern is security and keeping all aspects of cashless commerce safe and secure.
