I have been working at Mastercard full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great company with cool technology and smart colleagues

    Cons

Career development is not clear in all the business areas. Friendship is more important than merits. Employee burn-out is common. Outsourcing to India not done in a smart way. In many areas, middle management is not good for the company and for the employees.

    Advice to Management

Get an accurate assessment of the value of the US based employees by filtering through what middle management says. Change or improve middle management.

    I worked at Mastercard full-time

    Pros

Competitive compensation package. Great, smart people. Big focus on innovation with a lot of interesting products and capabilities in the works. Winning business model with strong margins and great assets. Truly a global company. Increasing focus and investment on customer experience and product management excellence

    Cons

Constant reorganizations means that roles are frequently changing or eliminated. Decision making can be slow and people at the BL and below levels have very little exposure to senior leadership. Some people leaders are very ineffective at leading teams and building a team spirit

    Advice to Management

Ajay has transformed the company and created a winning culture. His example needs to cascade down to lower levels to have strong leaders who care about their entire team and abilite to contribute.

I have been working at Mastercard as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people at Mastercard are extremely nice and they care a lot about their employees. They make sure that interns have a fun time outside of work while interning there by suggesting all of the interns to spend time together outside of work.

    Cons

I have not found any downsides. I think that they have a great balance between work and play and I look forward to working with them in the future.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you are doing. You guys are doing a great job and I think that you should continue on the path that you are on.

I have been working at Mastercard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good pay, great benefits, but I work 60 to 70 hours a week because of the lack of knowledge of so many new people. In order to become more global they open new offices and let go of a lot of knowledge before its was transferred.

    Cons

I have a large paycheck but not enough time to enjoy it. The company relies heavily on contractors and off shoring. It's very annoying to see citizens of the U.S. losing their jobs to people that are not citizens here.

    Advice to Management

Make sure the knowledge is transferred before letting go of it. New offices are nice, but not if you're in the old office stuck working all hours of the night fixing all the new teams mistakes (and getting blamed for them). Over worked is what everyone feels.

    Pros

Continued growth, dynamic organization, lots of opportunities to take on new roles.

    Cons

The transition to a technology company is not fully completed and there are some staffers who seem ill-prepared for the new paradigm.

I have been working at Mastercard full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Friendly, competent staff with very little "deadwood". Excellent benefits with pay and bonus. Normally flexible hours for those that need it. Work from home is typically available if the position allows.

    Cons

Senior management appears to be shifting many of the technical job positions overseas to India. There is an annual layoff period during the first part of each year and it's anybody's guess who gets cut. Very understaffed in many departments and management is very tight with labor dollars.

    Advice to Management

Shifting high-paying technical jobs overseas is a great expense-saving strategy. Consider the human as well as country cost as our young adults struggle to find good paying positions.

I worked at Mastercard as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Absolutely fantastic place to work. Relaxed atmosphere, knowledgeable people to work with and wonderful campus. Lots of fast paced changes.

    Cons

    Contractors are released without notice.

    Advice to Management

Give contractors at least the consideration of notice before contract terminations.
