I have been working at Mate1.com full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

lots of learning opportunities. Fast pace work environment. Flexible working hours. Free drinks and regular group activities.

    Cons

Sometimes dealing with legacy codes or systems that are not well documented.

I worked at Mate1.com (More than 8 years)

    Pros

The people, the people, the people--that's where it all starts and this company has that. It was the friendly environment that kept me there so long, even when I was less than thrilled with the work itself. The office is really nice and conveniently located. It was also pet friendly when I was there as well.

    Cons

I guess after a while it is easy to become disenchanted with the work. Online dating is a challenging field to stay really competitive in. Clients were unsatisfied more often than not.

    Advice to Management

I guess I would say try to be more innovative and on top of the game, and make sure projects don't keep going around in circles.

    I worked at Mate1.com full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

As a smaller, stable, tech company, Mate1 has been able to cultivate quite a few strengths:

    - Great company culture and co-workers
    - Lots of opportunities to grow and take on new responsibilities
    - Diverse technology stack and projects to work on
    - Great location
    - Generous benefits package (including a large kitchen with free drinks/espresso machine, etc)
    - Very involved and understanding management.

I would say if you're looking for a place to provide a challenging, diverse workload with learning opportunities and a great culture, you'd have a hard time finding a better place than Mate1.

    Cons

It's a very specific industry and, as such, it's not a good fit for everyone. Smallish team can limit the amount of projects that can be built and released in a given time period.

    Advice to Management

Recent infrastructure, process work, and strategy have started to pay off, now is the time to grow.

    I worked at Mate1.com full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

    - Very rich and diverse technology stack. You can learn a lot in a short amount of time and you get to work with a whole lot of new and different technologies.
    - Very nice work environment with a nice culture and atmosphere.
    - Helpful and very nice co-workers.
    - Flexible hours and very nice supervisors.

    Cons

    - No notable cons (enjoyed my time at Mate1).

    I worked at Mate1.com full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

People is so smart in this company. Given the fact there's great work needed with low budget, the technologies and implementations to resolve problems are really challenging. New technologies always come to the battle field, which is cool

    Cons

Salaries are poor, and stability is not greater. If you want a long term job, Mate1 could be a bad idea, since the market is not treating them that good.

    Advice to Management

Stop supporting IE8, that scares talented people. Don't let the QA team has the control of what is releasable and what not. Invest in the team, invest in new features, and probably a new website.

    Pros

Nice co workers. Great working environment. Fun company activities. Free drinks.

    Cons

Compensation below industry standard. No raise, little bonus. You are expected to work over weekends if there are fire drills(which happens every week). No overtime pay. No career development.
Company has no strategy, no direction. All we do is to make sure nothing breaks. People keeps leaving for better opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Put investment in your people. They are the key to your business.

     - flexible
     - top-notch kitchen and coffee

     - small company, fast paced, a lot is expected of you
     - tech is always evolving

    Cons

    - for every one employee there are four managers
     - lots of politics, finger-pointing, blame-game
     - high stress

    - No real career opportunities
    - Some projects take ages before being released, or never get released
    - Compensation is below the average

    I have been working at Mate1.com full-time

    Pros

Coworkers are friendly and nice; vibrant and hip neighbourhood

    Cons

Company has been shrinking in size due to employees leaving for better jobs or layoffs. As a result of that, there's little employee morale. There're always fires to be put out, ie. emergencies that negatively affect the bottom line. There's limited mobility or career advancement, unless you've been there for 6+ years and the owners have deemed you as loyal to the company. Salaries are below industry standards.

    Pros

Interesting field and very diverse technology stack (Java, Scala, Erlang, Perl and many back end systems) that can provide a good learning experience. Free drinks and good espresso machine.

    Cons

Permanent lack of resources, developers will often scavenge parts from the desktops of former developers that have moved on to other opportunities. The company has a culture of permanently fighting fires rather than investing up front to lower total costs. Non-competitive wages. Many Anglophone expats that don't speak French at all (could be a pro if you don't speak French I suppose).
