I have been working at Materia full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Only good if you are starting your career. Since many people are leaving the company, people currently working there will have certain job security but you will be underpaid. Good benefits but, they are starting to ask more money out your paycheck for insurance so it is becoming more difficult to see how benefits are being diminished for workers. Great minds!

    Cons

No advancements, no decent salary increase in years, no bonuses. The company is currently very disorganized. Too many managers and no clear communications, therefore misunderstandings can become a common thing. Many people are leaving and will continue leaving as management continues to be denial. That means more work for low salaries. Many workers are looking for another workplace and management does not want to admit that. If you can, look elsewhere because there is no room for personal growth or improvement in this company for workers. It used to be a good place to work, that is not longer true.

    Advice to Management

Lay off unnecessary leadership and hire people that will do the job needed. Be kinder to the remaining workers and do not make empty promises about salary increases. Make a real effort to increase salaries to those who are proven worthy. Expensive dinners for a job well done is well intended but in the end is an insult to good workers. The same goes for those promoted with no salary increase. That is not appropriate and it is frustrating. You might not mean harm but it is an arrogant attitude and only makes workers more upset. We, the remaining workers understand the responsibility you have towards the investors but you also have a responsibility to the workers. If you continue in this path, you will lose the rest of the good workers and therefore a lot of the intellect that can help this company to be a good place to work again. Think and act promptly as good leadership does and not as it is currently happening. You can do better, much much better.

I worked at Materia full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

This place is great if you love being overtly exposed to lots of toxic and harmful chemicals. There's lots of free food and coffee to help supplement the fact they can't pay you well.

    Cons

Lack of proper safety engineering. Bring it up to management and they will claim 'we are as start up, we are working on it'. Yet months if not years will go by with the same old dangerous process. I love how their HR tried pitching the whole company on going HMO instead of PPO. He snuck it in there as if it was a huge benefit to yourself, sneaky weasel. Place is very management heavy, they probably outnumber the actual amount of employees present.

    Pros

Paycheck every 2 weeks. Direct deposit is utilized here.

    Cons

Many levels of management. High level management does not communicate directly to lower level employees, except CEO. Communication between groups is very poor, Many projects are not focused on until deadlines approach, creating unnecessary time crunches. Lack of experience in many parts of the company. Many managers with little managing experience; many of them work from a desk and are not required to or do not understand the necessity of walking around and seeing what happens around them. Budget issues seem to take priority over everything.

    Advice to Management

Talk to employees that you are responsible for. Streamline company structure for the first time in ever. Offer training for managers, so they can learn what their purpose is.
