I worked at Matheson Tri-Gas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Dental and Medical are good. Vacations are good. Hourly employees/supervisors/lower managers are all very good.

    Cons

Too many to list, but I will hit the important ones.
The COO on down to some of the directors are basically the worst collection of "leaders" I have ever seen. I am still not convinced they are just holding out to sell that part of the business. In order to hire an hourly employee, the COO must aprove of it beforehand. Extreme micromanagement. Everything must be run up to the COO before going forward.

The engineering department is horrible. They could not design themselves out of a brown paper bag. The only sad part is that the chemicals and substances they are dealing with will kill in a second. I have no doubt in my mind that someone will get hurt if they continue to run and design things like they are.
Anyone that could has left the company or is in the process of leaving the company.
Watch what is promised in the job offer. A lot of what was spoken, did not come true.

    Advice to Management

Fire yourselves. or sell the company. The rest of the industry already knows how bad you are (as a lot of former employees now work in other businesses) and they will fire you.

I worked at Matheson Tri-Gas full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    None unless in upper management.

    Cons

Upper management has no accountability. Very top heavy. Worker workload is extremely high and overly scruitinized. Upper management makes bad choices or nothing to help employees succeed at their jobs. There is no guidance from upper management, only extra unnecessary work for the benefit of upper management. No serious effort to improve the company or working conditions of plant employees. Plant employees have to do research along with their daily workload with no help from a corporate research dept. (does not exist).

    Advice to Management

Start listening to your workforce and cut down on the fat up top. Way too many upper management.

I have been working at Matheson Tri-Gas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I do not know one person who is happy here. I have no good things to say about the company or management. The only pros are that I am surrounded by good people who work hard but do not get the respect they deserve.

    Cons

They do not believe in giving raises or promotions. The managers are so inappropriate and sexist - but there is no HR to turn to. The sales force has not gotten paid their commission in over 3 years.

    Advice to Management

    Treat your employees better.

I worked at Matheson Tri-Gas full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good use of technology; company growing and adding new accounts

    Cons

Management needs to take several courses in employee relations and motivation. Very much a zero tolerance environment where mistakes of any kind, even minor ones, are not tolerated. Result-- zero employee engagement. People just do their jobs and that is it. No one wants to move up in this company. If you want a paycheck this is a good job for it, but be ready for a pressure-cooker environment.

    Advice to Management

Tell you middle and lower management to back off an actually help the people around and under them. Quit the predatory management approach and don't play employees and departments off against each other. Show some respect to your people. Become leaders instead of managers/drill sergents.

    Pros

Benefits were good. Pay was fair, higher than some other places. Good people to work with.

    Cons

Too much safety BS, Safety more important than customers. Too many conference calls and the outside sales force is micromanaged excessively.
    .
Quick to shift blame to someone else for accidents. Management too concerned about losing their bonus $$ if the don't achieve their safety goals. Accounts Receivable department is incompetent.

Matheson destroyed the company that they purchased

    Advice to Management

Get involved with your people. Get off the conference calls. Stop blaming others when something like an accident happens,

NOTHING to say about this location

    Cons

Horibble company. They lie so much in store management. The values suck. Would not wish this job to my worst enemy. They promise you stuff and do not go through with it. Store manager is a LIER. I would have to also say that I am good friends with people that still work there and advise them to get another job becuase you will be alot happier.

    Advice to Management

    Get another job.

I worked at Matheson Tri-Gas full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Some people you work with will be nice people, however I would advise you to watch your back. There will be those willing to place a knife in it, because it has become company policy to pass the buck and the blame when anything goes wrong.

    Cons

Compensation is below standard. They don't listen to the people that make them the money and do all the work. Be careful what ideas you give some people; they steal them at times to look good. Management has no clue what their doing. Training is constant and done for the purpose of terminating people if you make a mistake. Customer service is secondary always to hundreds of rules imposed by policy.

    Advice to Management

You desperately need people persons in management, not dictators. Pay your knowledgeable people well, they are your bottom line. Hire more people to do the work; you have spread them too thin to save a buck.

    Pros

The few experienced people left. Benifits aren't to bad... yet

    Cons

    Management, Management, MANAGEMENT!!!

they expect the Best but don't realize to get the best (or keep the best) YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT!! instead they hire incompetent, unskilled sorry excuses of people it's like they intentionally look for the dumbest, laziest people they can find. I've put my time (years apon years) and watched this company suck the the life and everything good out of alot of great people and am looking to get out as soon as possible

If you do come to work here DO NOT expect to get a raise ...EVER and lord help you if you have an accident you'll be looking for another job even if it wasn't your fault. But if your an incompetent, sorry excuse of a person or a lazy, souless person you have a great chance to be promoted to management.

    Advice to Management

Pay for the experience you have left the elite few are all that's holding your company together.
You don't seem to realize we can cripple this company regardless of the "non compete agreement" you have In place
    Don't have kids.

    Pros

Great co workers, decent benefits. Matheson is a growing company. The benefits package is a decent one, provided it doesn't get cut down anymore.

    Cons

Health insurance is getting worse each year, your annual cost of living raise is tied to performance evaluations so if your boss doesn't like you, you won't get one. work schedule changes about every 2 years. Management tells you to go work eslewhere if you don't like it.

    Advice to Management

Speak to all of the workers, not just upper management.

I worked at Matheson Tri-Gas full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Worked with quite a few dedicated people who tried to make things work, but company seems to hire more "useless" people than "productive" people in turn stressing out those who carry the workload. Average pay with decent vacation time, but not worth the headache.

    Cons

Management is the biggest problem, too much favoritism!!! Work is not evenly distributed among the work force and only a handful of workers end up doing the majority of the work while the others collect a check. The drivers have a 3rd party following them , g.p.s. and trucks are governed at 62 mph and wanting to put in the in cab cameras watching all your movements. The company is looking for any reason to fire YOU and have forgotten the customer is the one that pays the bills. Every man for himself mentality with little to no support. High rate of turnover at all levels.

    Advice to Management

The leadership of East coast/ Mid West region and THE "YES MEN" are on a power trip forcing out veteran employees who are actually carrying the workload. Management needs to pay attention to those doing the work and LISTEN to what they are telling them not just hear them and get your butt kissers to do their fair share of work or you will lose more of those who actually take pride in their job and want the company to succeed. You need to re-evaluate your attitude towards the customer because they pay your bills so to speak. Lose the mentality of wanting to look for what an employee did wrong and wanting to fire them to showing some appreciation for their accomplishments and dedication.
