I worked at Matheson Tri-Gas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

It's in a great location with plenty of restaurants and shops. The salary is good only PPO Medical.

    Cons

Work 12 plus shifts including weekends for the new. Hours can be much longer, you are partnered with another planner which causes a lot of conflict that's not dealt with. There is an office bully that the manager hear on the floor and does nothing, no team work a negative environment with a high turnover.

    Advice to Management

Fostering team work will probably help first before partnering. Shifts might be a good solution than partnering.

I worked at Matheson Tri-Gas (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Excellent Department and supervisors, very diversified position, worked independently, was given alot of responsibility.

    Cons

Became overworked, I was only one in department supporting everyone plus others. Just became too much, took on too much.

    Advice to Management

They just need to add a paralegal and an assistant, or secretary - department needs two people assisting.

I worked at Matheson Tri-Gas full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people that work there are really nice and friendly. The environment in their Portland Oregon corporate office is pretty relaxed. I enjoyed going to work everyday.

    Cons

The office "manager" needs to learn how to manage employees. Allowing a coworker to try and tell you how your religion is wrong, then doing nothing when complaining about it is not OK. There seems to be a divide between office and warehouse/drivers.

    Advice to Management

Take some management courses and learn how to discipline employees. Upper management needs to really look at some training for their staff. The only way to "move up" in the company is either waiting for someone to retire or die. Ultimately I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a job.

I have been working at Matheson Tri-Gas (More than 5 years)

    Pros

It's emoloyment located in a nice building. There are building amenities-not to be confused with Matheson ammenities(none)

    Cons

Under pay market rate. Long hours-everything is considered urgent. Mgmt does not understand work life balance. If you have a family and work here don't exoect to see them much. NO employee perks to maintain motivation. High turn over rate. I witnessed 6 pl leave in 6 months.. Company worsens each yr.

    Advice to Management

CEO-get to know the employees and their names. Question why there is high turn over and work towards correcting the issue.

    Pros

I was an Outside Sales Rep under tremendous leadership and part of an extraordinary team of salespeople. The support from the storefronts was great as well, but I hear that varies. If you have solid upper management, there is very much a "we are only as strong as our weakest link" mentality that everyone buys into. The salary and benefits are very good, even great. The training is outstanding. I've had almost two decades of experience in sales and each position comes with it's own training programs. Mathesons sales model is second to none.

    Cons

It's a safety driven company, which is crucial since it can be a life or death situation, but there is a lot of turnover with drivers. Drivers impact sales and overall morale more than they think. They also pulled delivery trucks out of every store and assigned all of the deliveries to come out of their fill plants. Great in theory, but poor communication from driver and plant managers to the outside reps and their managers leads to constant blowback from customers who don't get their deliveries when promised.
Another con, which is relevant for Matheson AND their competitors is the business model as far as contracts go. If you do not read and take advantage of the fine print, you will be contractually married to them (or their competition).

    Advice to Management

Like most other companies, I feel they're losing their focus. Technology is outstanding and helpful in so many ways. But I (personally) feel that sales in general has moved away from a handshake and just being able to go out and sell. So many hoops and spreadsheets to jump through day to day, week to week, etc.
