I have been working at Mathis Brothers Furniture full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Consistent schedule, lax days mid week, plenty of moving up with positions.

    Cons

Over worked, unappreciated, minimum pay, managers ask too much of you at times.

    Advice to Management

Show more appreciation, over more money for the amount of work asked and "required"

I have been working at Mathis Brothers Furniture full-time

    Pros

    Decent benefits.
    Cafe on site.
    Mattress discount.

    Cons

    No weekends off.
They promote a very competitive workplace environment which leads to customers being overly pressured and overwhelmed by salesmen that are afraid to leave their side without someone else stealing them away.
High turnover rate because it takes a while before most people start making very much money.
    High stress sales job.

    Advice to Management

Offer a decent hourly rate with smaller commission percentages to stabilize employees income and lessen turnover rate. Happier and less stressed employees leads to happier and less frustrated customers.

I worked at Mathis Brothers Furniture full-time

    Pros

At Christmas they give a gift card and a ham as a bonus

    Cons

Unequal treatment, depending on how they feel about an employee. You can ask the same question to 2 different managers and get 2 answers. They permit harassment and hostile work environment and if you notify HR, then you are the target. High stress, as sales are, but with an uneven playing field and favorites and inconsistencies it just makes it intolerable.

    Advice to Management

I wouldn't know where to start.

I have been working at Mathis Brothers Furniture full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The have great health insurance, however the benefits decreased slightly from last year.

    Cons

401K is subpar only matching 20%, pay is not very good for the area compared to other companies out there. Unless you are related or sleeping with a relative there is not much room for advancement. Also, they find it acceptable for a manager to be leaving during the day with one of the cashiers for extended periods of time. I guess to have the ability to leave when you want you need to be sleeping with the manager like she is.

    Pros

Can make great money if you try hard enough and it's a good sales month. Some months, people just aren't buying

    Cons

Dealing with customers and the poor management. Very little communication between management and employees. Also zero sales training or product training.

    Advice to Management

    Implement training

I have been working at Mathis Brothers Furniture part-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Preface this by saying that I'm employed at a tertiary part of the company. Solid benefits and great 401k match (though I never took advantage due to my part-time nature). They seem to really care about their employees.

    Cons

Increasingly invasive corporate structure for a local company. Some of the benefits are harder to access (gym located away from many of the stores within the company, only periodic enrollment into benefits).

    Advice to Management

Consider a more strategic approach to Human Resources. They do an excellent job, but are weighed down by too much bureaucracy.
