    Great part-time work at Mathnasium

    Mar 27, 2017 - Math Instructor

    Pros

Management is very supportive and appreciative of instructors' efforts. All work is done while you are at the center, so you never have to take any work home.

    Cons

You really need to be focused for 4 hours straight in the afternoons which can be mentally exhausting. On busier days, an instructor can be working with up to 4 kids each hour.

Waste of Time, Effort, and Skills

    Mar 2, 2020 - Center Director

    Pros

    - Gives you plenty of time to do anything else. - Likely to be promoted to Center Director quickly since other Center Directors quit so often.

    Cons

    - Will not pay you well enough to be able to make a living while committing the time required to be able grow a center. In my region, the entire pool of Center Directors was refreshed in about a year. - Lacks a need for any real skills. Management wants to hire people with degrees but its a waste of time and an individuals skills to work for them. - Frequent and repeated meetings of management that repeat the same pointsFrequent and repeated meetings of management that repeat the same pointsFrequent and repeated meetings of management that repeat the same points on how to grow a center. Seniority doesn't matter in these meetings, so you will likely be hearing the same exact thing, day-in day-out, until you stop working there. - The cost of a membership is too high for a center to make significant growth unless they're in the richest of territories.

Good for high school/college students working part-time

Aug 15, 2021 - Instructor in Marietta, GA

    Pros

There's usually a very relaxed, low-stress environment and it feels good to actually help students. Management is very helpful if things get a little hectic and mostly non obstructive when it comes to letting you do your job.

    Cons

The center isn't open for many hours so full-time pay is impossible without being a center director

    Untrustworthy Employer

May 22, 2016 - Center Director in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA

    Pros

Mathnasium is a reputable company that generally does great work. The center director position is a great position that allows you to balance education management and business. Lots of creativity, self-direction, working with students, and a great reward when you see students achieve their goals and improve in math.

    Cons

The management for the Rancho Santa Margarita/Seal Beach branch is untrustworthy and unreasonable. They spent hours talking to me in interviews and got along so well with me. They expressed multiple times that they has the utmost confidence in me and think that I would be an even better center director than ever before. However, after I had signed the offer letter, turned down another offer, and given two weeks notice at my current job, they suddenly changed their mind. When I asked why, they were unable to pinpoint exactly why, but said that they don't want someone that will be more effective, engaging, and better, but rather wants someone who will naturally be like themself. Having done nothing wrong, even in their own opinion, I strongly warn any future employees to watch out for sudden changes of mind and lack of respect for other peoples' livelihoods. I am glad I am no longer working with them because I would never be able to trust them or have any peace of mind/job security while with them. The major con here is that you cannot trust the management of this particular franchise chain (Rancho Santa Margarita and Seal Beach).

    Great Positive Environment

Sep 17, 2018 - Instructor in Granada Hills, CA

    Pros

Such a supportive and positive atmosphere. As an Instructor you really are given the chance to bond with the students and watch them grown as you teach them different ways of approaching mathematics. Management is super accessible and supportive if anything comes up. Great opportunity for anyone with a passion for teaching (the students range across all grades) and a knack for math.

    Cons

Because it is a tutoring center the office is only open after school so the hours you're working are minimal.
