    Good first job

    Pros

Flexible work schedule and great intellectual position for a first job.

    Cons

Inconsistent workflow; some days would be jam packed with kids and others would have more instructors than kids, leading to some instructors completing fewer hours during the week than they anticipated.

    Pros

Flexible schedule and fun! Great for helping kids understand math better. It’s rewarding to see their improvement.

    Cons

No health insurance, vacation time, or 401k. No work breaks for short shifts.

    Pros

Very flexible hours and schedule. The job can be demanding at times, however, it is extremely rewarding.

    Cons

Sometimes the children can be a handful. You have to be patient with them and teach them in an effective manner that makes them feel comfortable and welcomed.

    Great Place to Work But...

    Apr 23, 2018 - Center Director

    Pros

The job is incredibly rewarding and works great with a school schedule. If you want management, teaching, or business experience this is a great place to be.

    Cons

Don't expect a lot of $$ or hours. Even as a Center Director you will be capped around 32 hours and you have to keep in mind that centers are usually open only 5 hours a day, 6 days a week. Also, as a franchise your experience will vary based on who the owner is.

    Good Experience

    Pros

Easy to get hired, good job for a high school or college student due to its school-oriented hours of operation. Everyday tasks are not too hard, teamwork is encouraged. You sometimes get candy.

    Cons

Almost impossible to make much money due to low wages in combination with few hours per week. Long online training required before being put on the schedule that could easily be explained on the job. Can get busy at times but clears up in an hour, depends on location.

Fun job, good experience, few hours to be had

    Pros

The kids are always great. If you like working with kids, you'll enjoy working at Mathnasium. The schedule is often flexible. I personally tried to work as many shifts as possible but I know we often had people on the team only working one or two shifts a week by choice.

    Cons

Not enough hours to make a living - you need to find another part-time job to fit around the centre's hours if you are trying to support yourself. The schedule through the school year is kind of annoying if you work every day it's open. You work Monday-Thursday, have Friday off, then work Saturday, then have Sunday off. It might surprise you how much different having two days off in a row vs. two separate days off can feel for your mental health. I found both centres I've worked at to be somewhat unorganized and often the communication with staff about things like schedule changes, summer hours, etc. was delayed or nonexistent.

Good overall but varies in general

    Pros

The kids are pretty fun to work with. At the location I work at the owners will back-up the instructors if parents are being rude.

    Cons

You must be flexible and adaptive to work with kids and at a place the the schedule fluctuates so often.
